Vijay Inder Singla is an Indian politician and a veteran member of the Indian National Congress (INC). He served as the Member of Parliament from the Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab from 2009 to 2014. Singla is also a former member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly.

Vijay Inder Singla was born on Wednesday, 1 December 1971 (age 51 years; as of 2022) in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He did his schooling till 10th standard at Yadvindra Public School in Patiala. In 1989, he graduated 12th standard from Multani Mal Modi College in Patiala, Punjab. Vijay pursued a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science at B.M.S. College of Engineering in Bangalore.

He was elected to the Lok Sabha as a member of the Indian National Congress. On 9 April 2005, S.R. Singla died at the age of 70.

Career

Vijay Inder Singla joined the Indian National Congress (INC) in 2002. In 2006, he was appointed as the President of the Punjab Youth Congress.

In 2009, he contested the General elections from the Sangrur constituency on a ticket from the Indian National Congress and was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha after defeating Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa of the Shiromani Akali Dal by 40,000 votes. In 2014, he lost the 16th Lok Sabha elections from the Sangrur constituency and was succeeded by Bhagwant Mann, who defeated him with a hefty margin of 3,51,827 votes.

State Politics

In 2017, he contested and won the 15th Punjab Legislative Assembly elections from the Sangrur constituency on a ticket from the Indian National Congress after defeating Dinesh Bansal of AAP by 30,812 votes. In 2022, he lost the 16th Punjab Legislative Assembly elections to Narinder Kaur Bharaj of the Aam Admi Party by a margin of 36,430 votes.

Vijay Inder Singla is a member of the Indian Council of World Affairs, National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, Institute & Governing Body of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (Chandigarh), Regional Direct Taxes Advisory Committee, Patiala (Punjab), and Chairman of Regional Consultative Committee on Food Corporation of India (Punjab). Violating Covid-19 norms

In 2022, the Sangrur police filed two charge sheets against Vijay Inder Singla in two cases registered. On 12 February 2022, the first case was registered under Section 188 of the IPC and Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, at Sangrur police station. According to the FIR filed against Vijay Inder Singla, the flying squad team in charge of Rajinder Kumar had found Singla conducting a political rally consisting of 70-80 people in violation of norms. On 13 February, another case was registered under section 188 of the IPC, section 51 of the Disaster Management Act 2005. In an interview, Singla talked about this and said,

I never knew about these cases registered for code violation against me though it has been six months since AAP has formed. However, I have full faith in the judiciary and would abide by the court orders.”
