Apple’s WWDC23 Swift Student Challenge Winner
While studying at Medi-Caps University in Madhya Pradesh, Asmi Jain discovered that her friend’s uncle was struggling with facial paralysis and eye misalignment, following a brain surgery. Determined to offer assistance, Jain resolved to create an innovative application. She developed an interactive platform that monitors a user’s eye movements as they attempt to track a ball circulating on the display. The primary intention behind this virtual exercise ground is to reinforce the strength of the eye muscles. Recognizing the potential of her work, Asmi submitted her project to Apple’s WWDC23 Swift Student Challenge, and in May 2023, she was declared one of its winners.
Although initially conceptualized to assist her friend’s uncle, Jain’s vision extends to aiding individuals suffering from various eye conditions and injuries. Asmi talked about her project and achievement, in an interview, and said,
It was important for me to create an app playground that could positively impact the lives of people like him. My next goal is to get feedback and make sure it’s effective and user-friendly, and then release it on the App Store. Ultimately, I want to expand it so that it helps strengthen all of the muscles in the face, and I hope it can one day serve as a therapy tool that people like my friend’s uncle can use at their own pace.”
Alongside Asmi Jain, Yemi Agesin and Michelle Caliendo emerged as the winners of the WWDC23 Swift Student Challenge. Agesin designed a first-person baseball game that effectively merges his love for sports and filmmaking. Caliendo’s app playground, on the other hand, is a memory game featuring anatomically correct pictures of dinosaur fossils, drawn meticulously by her using the Procreate software on her iPad.
