Subhasis Talapatra is an Indian lawyer, who has held many important posts in the high courts of Orissa, Tripura, and Guwahati. He hit the headlines in July 2023 after the Supreme Court collegium recommended his name for the post of the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

Subhasis Talapatra was born on Wednesday, 4 October 1961 (age 61 years; as of 2022) in Udaipur, Tripura, India. His zodiac sign is Libra. After completing his schooling, he enrolled at the University of Calcutta, where he earned a degree in Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Legislative Law (BA LLB).

Career
On 12 September 1990, Subhasis Talapatra became a member of the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. Even though he was authorized to practice law in any northeastern state, he mainly represented his clients in civil, constitutional, and criminal cases specifically at the Agartala Bench of the Gauhati High Court. On 21 December 2004, he was appointed as a senior advocate at the Gauhati High Court. On 15 November 2011, he took the oath and became an additional judge of the Gauhati High Court. He was appointed as a permanent judge of the Tripura High Court on 13 September 2013. He has served as the Executive Chairman of the Tripura State Legal Services Authority since 2017. Additionally, he has held positions as the chairman of the Juvenile Justice Committee, the chairman of the Computer Committee and eCourts Project, the chairman of the Committee for the Establishment of the National Law University, and a member of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal since 2018. From 2 November 2018 to 13 November 2018, he served as an acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura. He was once again appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court on 11 November 2019; he served in the post till 15 November 2019. On 10 June 2022, he took oath as a Judge of the High Court of Orissa.
The collegium of the Supreme Court put forward Talapatra’s name as a recommendation for the position of Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court in July 2023.
Salary
As per the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC), the salary of a judge of a high court is estimated to be Rs. 2,25,000 + other allowances.

- From 10 September 2018 to 14 September 2018, he took part in Phase-II Training on Counter Terrorism as part of a Faculty Exchange Program in Washington, D.C. and Orange County, California.
- Subhasis Talapatra was invited to attend the UNESCO-hosted World Congress on Justice for Children held from 28 March 2018 to 30 March 2018 in Paris.
