Omi Vaidya is an Indian American actor. He is well-known for his work in Bollywood films. He gained recognition for his role as ‘Chatur Ramalingam’ in the film ‘3 Idiots’ (2009).

Omi Vaidya was born on Sunday, 10 January 1982 (age 42 years; as of 2024) in Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, California, United States. His zodiac sign is Capricorn. Omi’s native place is Goa. He did his formal education at Los Angeles County High School for the Arts in Los Angeles. He then attended the University of California, Santa Cruz for two years. Later, he studied at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he graduated with honours. Omi began acting at school, and this is when he decided to pursue acting as a career.

Career

Film

Omi Vaidya made his acting debut with the English Language film ‘Rolling’ (2007) in which he played the role of ‘Assar.’ His role as “Chatur Ramalingam” or “Silencer” in the film ‘3 Idiots’ (2009) is considered one of his most remarkable performances. In an interview, Omi uttered that he was on a trip to Mumbai when he auditioned for the film ‘3 Idiots’ and said,

As I was planning my trip back to the States, a friend of mine who was involved with 3 Idiots told me about a role they were auditioning NRI Actors for. Considering I didn’t speak Hindi or watch Bollywood Movies, I wasn’t interested in auditioning. On top of that the role was not even written for yet. At the audition, I had to say lines from the film Lage Raho Munna Bhai. I was very bold and nonchalant when saying the lines primarily because I didn’t think I was going to get the role. I was offered the role as I was heading home from the audition.”

In 2011, he acted in the film ‘Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji’ in which he played the role of ‘Milind Kelkar.’

He appeared as Ajay in the film ‘Desi Boyz’ (2011). Later, he appeared in many films including ‘Players’ (2012), ‘Jodi Breakers’ (2012), ‘Mirror Game’ (2017), ‘Blackmail’ (2018). In 2023, he played the role of a Scientist in the US-Bangladesh joint venture action thriller film ‘MR-9: Do or Die.’

Omi made his television debut with the American TV series ‘The Office’ (2005) in which he played the role of ‘Sadiq.’

In 2008, he appeared in the series ‘Life’ in which he played the role of ‘Vairam,’ and the series ‘Bones,’ in which he played the role of ‘Hamid Hirani.’ Later, he appeared in many series including ‘Kath & Kim’ (2009), ‘Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight’ (2009), ‘Growing Up Fisher’ (2014), ‘Go Here or To Go’ (2015), and ‘Brown Nation’ (2016). In 2019, he played the role of ‘Kannan’ in the Indian series ‘Metro Park.’
