Anush Agarwalla is an Indian horserider who has competed in many national and international equestrian tournaments. He has made many records for India including becoming the first Indian to win individual medal winner in Asian Games.

Wiki/Biography

Anush Agarwalla was born on Tuesday, 23 November 1999 (age 23 years; as of 2023) in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He got interested in horseriding during his childhood when his parents took him to the Tollygunge club at the age of 3. When he was 8, his mother enrolled him for horseriding training, and he started competing in local tournaments. At the age of 11, he started going to New Delhi at regular intervals to train in equestrians.

He moved to New Delhi at the age of 16 to train more often at OREA stables under his coach Kapil Modi; however, he moved to Germany, at the age of 17, where he trained under the Olympian Hubertus Schmidt. He studied till 10th standard at La Martiniere for Boys, Kolkata and later till 12th standard at The Shri Ram School, New Delhi.

After moving to Germany, he dropped out of school and started studying online at the National Institute of Open Schooling. He later pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics at Paderborn University, Paderborn, Germany.

Career

Equestrian Dressage

Anush Agarwalla started training in the dressage segment of equestrian sport, which involves the rhythmic movement of horses on music beats in an arena. He failed to qualify for the 2018 Asian Games and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In an interview, he said that the time between October 2019 and December 2020 was very challenging for him as he could not qualify for many tournaments. His first big achievement came in 2022 when qualified for the World Championships in Herning, Denmark.

He also competed in the Grand Prix Freestyle at Zakrzow, Poland under the World Cup Central European League. He also competed for his club named RV Altenautal. He later competed in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in 2023 where he won many medals and made many records for India.

Horses

In the equestrian sport, the rider has to build a connection with their horses during their connection. When Anush was training in Delhi, he used to ride a horse named Sonntag. While training in Germany, he rode four horses named Manni, Sir Caramello Old, which is a gelding horse (castrated male horse) born in 2007 and belongs to the Oldenburger (OLDBG) breed, Loro Piano, which is a gelding horse born in 2007 and belongs to Hanoverian (HANN) breed, and Etro, which is a stallion horse (male horse) born in 2014 and belongs to Westphalian (WESTF) breed. In an interview, Anush revealed that he feeds apples and carrots to his horse Sir Caramello Old; however, the horse’s favourite food is raspberries.
