Career
Zoravar Singh Sandhu started shooting at the age of eleven. He has participated in many national and international shooting tournaments. In an interview, Sandhu said that he became familiar with shooting at a very young age, and he shifted from skeet shooting to trap events on his family’s say. He said,
I was introduced to shooting when I was five. I started shooting skeet when I was 11. I later switched to trap after my father and grandfather asked me to change the event for better prospects.”
In 2014, Sandhu earned a gold medal in the men’s trap event at the National Games held in Patiala. After a long gap, in 2022, he competed in the men’s trap finals at the National Games held in Gujarat, where he earned a silver medal for shooting. In January 2023, Sandhu topped the national shotgun selection trials at the New Moti Bagh Gun Club in Patiala. In October 2023, Zoravar Singh Sandhu represented India at the 19th Asian Games (2022) held in Hangzhou, China. He won a gold medal for shooting in the men’s trap event along with his teammates Kynan Chenai and Prithviraj Toindaman.
In the 2022 Asian Games, India earned a gold medal, setting an Asian Games record of 361, while Kuwait took silver with a score of 359 points, and China drew bronze with 354 points. Cumulative scores of shooters in the qualifying round from each country were considered to award medals in the trap team event at the Shotgun Ranges, where Zoravar Singh was second in qualifying for the round with a score of 120/125. Later, Zoravar finished fifth with a score of 23/30 in the individual finals.
