Rhythm Sangwan’s father, Narender Sangwan, is a Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Haryana Police. Her mother, Neelam, is a homemaker. Rhythm has a sister, Jessica Sangwan, and a brother, Shaurya Sangwan. Jessica Sangwan is a doctor, and Shaurya Sangwan is a state-level football player.

Career

Rhythm Sangwan made her national debut in 2017 with the 61st National Shooting Championship held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, in which she was part of the 10-metre air pistol event. In 2021, she participated in the ISSF Junior World Championships held in Lima, Peru.

In 2022, Rhythm took part in the 1st ISSF Rifle/Pistol World Shooting Championships held in Cairo, Egypt.

In the same year, Rhythm participated in the Asian Airgun Championships held in Daegu, South Korea. In 2023, Rhythm took part in the 53rd ISSF World Shooting Championships held in Baku, Azerbaijan. She won her first individual World Cup medal at the senior level. In the same year, Rhythm, along with Manu Bhaker and Esha Singh, participated in the 2022 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. The trio had a collective score of 1759.

Facts/Trivia

  • Since childhood, Rhythm Sangwan was fascinated by her father’s service revolver and used to wear an empty holster around the house. Her mother was also a sports player during her school days; however, she couldn’t continue it further. She always wanted Rhythm to get into sports, and she used to accompany her in all of her practice sessions.
  • At the age of 13, Rhythm started her shooting training in 2016 at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi, where she was trained by the national shooter Vineet Kumar.
  • Her parents built a basic shooting range for her to practice easily. In 2020, during the Covid-19 lockdown, the in-house range helped her a lot to keep her shooting form intact.
  • In 2023, she broke a 29-year-old record in the women’s 25m pistol event at the IISF World Cup held in Baku, Azerbaijan. Rhythm scored 595 points, breaking the previous record of 594 points of Atlanta Olympic Games silver medalist and Bulgarian shooter Diana Iorgova in 1994. She also broke a 32-year-old qualification record for women’s 25m pistol in the junior category of Russia’s Nino Salukvadze in 1989.

Anurag Singh Thakur awarded cash amounts to all the winners including Rhythm Sangwan, and she handed over the cheque amount to her paternal grandfather after coming back home.
