Kiran Karmarkar is an Indian actor who predominantly works in the Hindi television and Marathi film industries. He is best known for playing the role of Om Agarwal in the Hindi television series ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii’ (2000-2008), which aired on StarPlus.

He got married to the TV actress Rinku Dhawan in 2002. They met each other for the first time on the set of the television series ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii’ (2000) in which they played siblings on-screen. Soon, they became good friends and started dating each other. They dated each other for a long time before getting married. However, the couple got separated in 2017 and got divorced in 2019.

Career
Theatre
Kiran Karmarkar started his career as a theatre artist in 1989 with a Marathi theatre group named Dinmaam. In 2006, he played a comic role for the first time in the Hindi play ‘Merra Naam Joker,’ directed by Shubha Khote. He appeared opposite Shefali Shah in the Hindi play ‘Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai…!’ in 2010. He has performed in various Marathi theatre plays including ‘Kachche Dhage,’ ‘Salim Aarif,’ ‘Humsafar,’ and ‘Shaadi Ki Home Delivery.’
Television
He made his television debut with the horror television drama series ‘Mano Ya Na Mano’ (1995), which aired on Zee TV. In 1996, he appeared as Mantri in the TV series ‘Itihaas.’ The series was broadcast on DD National. In the same year, he appeared alongside Anup Soni, Irrfan Khan, and Om Puri in the TV show ‘Safar.’ He played the role of Rajesh in the television show ‘Ghar Ek Mandir’ (2000), which was aired on Sony Entertainment Television.

He gained immense popularity after playing the role of Om Agarwal in the popular television drama series ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii’ in 2000. The TV series was aired on StarPlus.

In 2004, he essayed the role of Nishchay Kapoor in the television show ‘Kkehna Hai Kuch Mujhko,’ which was broadcast on Sony Entertainment Television. He played the role of Sudhanshu in the TV show ‘Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan’ (2006), aired on StarPlus. Kiran Karmarkar made his debut in the Marathi film industry with the film ‘Nishpaap’ (1992), starring popular Marathi actor Yashwant Dutt. He played the role of Satish Gaikwad in the film.

In 1994, he appeared in the film ‘Yadnya.’ He played the role of Dr. Deshpande in the film ‘Aaghat’ (2010). In 2013, he essayed the role of Prasad Sathe in the film ‘Pune 52.’ The actor played the role of Nishikant Sabnis in the comedy-drama film ‘Family Katta’ (2016), directed by Chandrakant Kulkarni.

Kiran Karmarkar made his debut in the Hindi film industry with the film ‘Shirdi Sai Baba’ (2001) in which he played the role of a blind man. In 2004, he appeared as Raju’s (played by Arya Babbar) father in the film ‘Thoda Tum Badlo Thoda Hum.’ In 2010, he played the role of SP Sharma in the Bollywood film ‘Raajneeti.’ He essayed the role of Ramakant Choudhary in the 2016 film ‘Jai Gangaajal.’

In 2022, he appeared as Ticket collector Damle in the film ‘Darlings,’ starring Alia Bhatt. He has acted in various Hindi films including ‘Just Married’ (2007), ‘Pankh’ (2010), ‘Force’ (2011), ‘Shanghai’ (2012) and ‘Crazy Cukkad Family’ (2015).

In 2023, he appeared in the biographical web series ‘Scam 2003: The Telgi Story’ in which he played the role of More. The series was premiered on the OTT platform SonyLIV.

- In an interview, he revealed that he had rejected offers for various web shows because of the use of abusive language and sexual content in them. He said,
Several web shows had come to me but it didn’t work out. I didn’t like the content of some shows. Also, in some of them, I found the sexual content and abusive words that were used very unnecessary.”
- In another interview, he said that he rejected almost 50 roles within two years as he did not find the roles worth it. While talking about it in the interview, he said,
I must have said ‘no’ to 50 roles in the last two years simply because I was being offered characters which did not have a story of their own.”
