Controversy
MP Mahua Moitra’s Defamation Allegations
In October 2023, Jai Anant Dehadrai came into the limelight when BJP Lok Sabha member Nishikant Dubey alleged that Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra had received bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for posing questions in Parliament that targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Adani Group. Dubey cited a letter from Jai Anant Dehadrai containing evidence of this exchange of cash and gifts between Moitra and Hiranandani.
Mahua Moitra then issued a legal notice to Nishikant Dubey and Jai Anant Dehadrai for defaming her with their claims. According to the legal notice, Moitra and Dehadrai were once close friends but after they fell out, Dehadrai allegedly started sending Moitra numerous offensive, malicious, and lewd messages. Moitra also accused him of trespassing into her official residence and stealing personal belongings, including Moitra’s dog. She then filed police complaints against Jai Anant Dehadrai. The notice further claimed that Dehadrai attempted to persuade journalists to publish false stories about Moitra but failed due to a lack of evidence.
