He is the chairman of Jindal Steel and Power Limited (formerly known as Jindal Strips Limited). Sajjan Jindal is the chairman and managing director of the JSW Group. Prithviraj Jindal is the non-executive chairman of Jindal SAW Limited. Seema Jindal Jajodia is a health coach and the owner of Nourish Organics. Ratan’s other siblings include Sarika Jhunjhunwala, Urmila Bhuwalka, and Nirmala Goel.

Ratan Jindal holds the positions of chairman and co-managing director at Jindal Stainless Ltd. He also serves as the non-executive chairman for Jindal Stainless (Hisar) Ltd. and is the managing director and director at Jindal Stainless FZE, both subsidiaries of Jindal Stainless Ltd. He is actively involved in various organizations, such as the Young Presidents’ Organization, World Steel Association, Confederation of Indian Industry, Nickel Development Institute, PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Indian Stainless Steel Development Association. He also sits on the board of 14 other companies. Ratan’s leadership led Jindal Stainless to become the largest integrated stainless steel producer in India, securing a spot among the top 10 global stainless steel producers. Under his guidance, the company evolved and began catering to an international audience with an annual capacity of 1.1 million tonnes. He is well known for his technical proficiency and deep understanding of customers and markets. His focus goes beyond producing world-class stainless steel products to advocating the versatile use of stainless steel in various applications. In an interview, he said that he wished to produce corrosion-resistant, durable, infinitely recyclable, and inherently stainless steel products.

Philanthropy
In line with his father’s legacy, O.P. Jindal, who emphasized uplifting weaker sections for national prosperity, Ratan Jindal has integrated Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into Inclusive Management. He is the chairman of a 600-bed, multi-specialty charitable hospital and oversees two large schools. He has established numerous schools to ensure that over 4000 students, regardless of their backgrounds, receive quality education.

He also helps with the empowerment of local communities through initiatives like technical & vocational training, micro-financing, livelihood generation, tailoring, farming and poultry training, and environmental conservation efforts, all done under the Jindal banner.
Controversy
Zee News Controversy
In 2012 the Jindal Group filed an FIR against Sudhir Chaudhary, the then head of Zee News, and Samir Ahluwalia who was the head of Zee Business. After the FIR, the Jindal Group, during a press conference showcased a video in which the two accused journalists were seen demanding a bribe of Rs. 100 crore to not link their firm to the coal scam. Thereafter, Zee News filed a defamation case against Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL), Ratan Jindal, Naveen Jindal, and 13 others, and demanded Rs. 150 crore for defaming the journalists. Reportedly, Naveen Jindal filed a Rs. 200 crore defamation case against Zee News. After the filing of the FIR, both the journalists were arrested by the crime branch of the Delhi police. However, they were released on parole later on. In 2018, an out-of-court settlement was reached after which the Jindal Group clarified that it was all a “miscommunication”.
