Rinku Sharma was born on Wednesday. 11 April 2001 (age 22 years; as of 2023) in the village Rindhana, district Sonipat, Haryana. His zodiac sign is Aries. Rinku started his studies in a local school in his village; however, he did not complete his schooling as he was more interested in pursuing kabaddi instead of studies.

Kabaddi Player

In 2017, Rinku participated in the 44th Junior National Kabaddi Championship and represented the Chandigarh team. In the following year, he took part in the Khelo India School Games in which his home state won the gold medal. In 2021, he was picked up by the Mumbai-based Pro Kabaddi League team ‘U Mumba’ for season 8 and was bought in auctions for Rs. 32 lakhs. He scored an overall 60 tackle points with a 73.51% average time on the mat. He scored 60 points from 22 matches in his debut PKL season.

In the same year, Rinku took part in the 68th Senior Nationals Championship (Men) and represented Chandigarh. In 2022, Rinku participated in the Khelo India University games in which he represented the Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo and won the gold medal in the men’s division category.

In the same year, he took part in the All India Inter University Championship 2022 held at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak where he represented the Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo and won the second prize of the tournament.

In 2022, he was retained by the Pro Kabaddi League team ‘U Mumba’ for season 9 and was made the vice-captain of the team for the entire season. He also served as the captain of the team for a few matches as the original captain was injured.

In 2023, Rinku Sharma took part in the 37th National Games of India which were held in Goa. Rinku represented the Chandigarh Kabaddi team and won the bronze medal in the tournament.

In the same year, Rinku was retained by the team ‘U Mumba’ for season 10 of the Pro Kabaddi League in which he had 38 tackles with 23 tackle points and 79.28% of average time on mat.

  • Rinku Sharma always wanted to join the team ‘U Mumba’ because his favourite defender and Iranian kabaddi player Fazel Atrachali was in that team. His second favourite Pro Kabaddi League team besides ‘U Mumba’ was ‘Patna Pirates.’
  • In terms of a raider, Rinku considers Pardeep Narwal his biggest inspiration. He considers the Iranian player Fazel Atrachali his idol in terms of defending in Kabaddi.

  • Rinku Sharma started playing kabaddi at the age of 12 as kabaddi is the most prominent sport in his native village. He got inspired by seeing his senior players who belonged to the same village and are now famous Indian kabaddi players like Pardeep Narwal, Rajesh Narwal, and Joginder Narwal.
  • Rinku’s favourite defensive move is ‘dash’ where a defender rushes to a raider with great force before pushing them out of the playing area and preventing them from crossing the midline.
  • Rinku’s parents wanted him to study and get a well-to-do job; however, his elder brother, Lokesh Sharma, wanted him to play Kabaddi and he was the one who introduced Rinku to the field of Kabaddi.
  • The Pro Kabaddi League started in 2014 while Rinku was still studying in school and that’s when he saw senior players getting so much recognition and government jobs. That was the moment when Rinku chose kabaddi over studies.
  • While he was studying in school, Rinku used to bunk his classes to take part in the domestic Kabaddi matches and he anyway was not interested in studies and thought of making his kabaddi skills better at that time.
  • During the initial days of his kabaddi journey, he was an all-rounder and was a decent player in the raider position. It was during the under-17 nationals that he shifted his entire focus to defending.
  • With his bidding amount of season 8. Rinku Sharma built a house for his family and also bought a vehicle out of the Pro Kabaddi League amount.
  • His best friend in the team ‘U Mumba’ is Surinder Singh Dehal.
