Kenya Barris is best known for creating the ABC comedy series Black-ish, for which he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. He is also the creator of the spin-off series Grown-ish and Mixed-ish, and the Netflix comedy series #blackAF. Barris’ writing career began in 2000 when he was hired to write an episode of the Nickelodeon show Cousin Skeeter. Kenya Barris’s mother named, Tina, a real estate agent and father named, Patrick, a General Motors factory worker. His parents divorced when he was five years old. Barris was raised in Inglewood and Pacoima, California, before his father won a settlement after losing a lung in a chemical accident.
Moreover, Kenya is the second of five children. He was born in Inglewood, California. The name he was given came from the fact that his father visited the country when he was a child. His father had such fond memories of his trip to the country that he wanted to commemorate it by giving his son a name that reminded him of the time he spent there.
