Amrapali Kata is an IAS officer of Telangana cadre. She is known for being the first woman IAS officer to be appointed as the District Collector of Warangal Urban District, Telangana.

Amrapali Kata was born on Thursday, 4 November 1982 (age: 37 years, as in 2019) in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. She received her primary education from Sai Satya Mandir School, Visakhapatnam. For higher education, she cracked the IIT exam and did her B.Tech from Chennai. Thereafter, she enrolled at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Banglore and received her MBA degree. Her zodiac sign is Scorpio.

She was born to Venkat Reddy Kata and Padmavathi.

Her father has served as a Professor at the Andhra University. She has one sibling; a sister. Her sister works at the Revenue Department of Karnataka.

On 18 February 2018, she got married to an IPS officer, Sameer Sharma. She has no children.

Career

She cracked the UPSC exam in 2010 and attained 39th rank. She was one of the youngest candidates to crack the exam. She served as the Sub-collector of Vikarabad, Telangana in 2013. Later, she became the Director of the Women and Child Welfare Department in 2014.

Thereafter, she was appointed as the Joint Collector of Ranga Reddy District, Telangana in 2015. In 2016, she served as the District Collector of Warangal Urban District, Telangana. Her work has been appreciated many times by the locals and the government. She has been working against common problems in the society; inadequate sanitation, poor hygiene, unsafe water, etc. To make people aware of it, she also distributed the books titled “Economics of Sanitation.”

She has also served as a private secretary to the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, G. Kishan Reddy.

Controversy

In 2018, while delivering a speech on the occasion of the Republic Day, she laughed twice. She fumbled for some Telugu words. After the ceremony, she was criticised in the media for laughing in a public event.

  • After receiving her master’s degree, she worked in a Business bank named ‘ABN AMRO.’
  • Her brother-in-law is also an IAS officer.
  • Her fans, admirers installed an idol of her in Warangal. The idol depicts that she is holding the lord Ganesha in her lap.
