Jason Bateman is an American actor , director, and producer. He started acting in the early 1980s on Little House on the Prairie and Silver Spoons, and has since appeared in a number of films and television series, including The Hogan Family, Teen Wolf Too, The Star Chamber, Valerie, The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, Arrested Development, Ozark, Up in the Air, Bad Words, Horrible Bosses, and Office Space. Bateman has also directed episodes of television series such as The Office US, Arrested Development US, and Ozark.
Jason was born in Rye Brook, New York to Kent Bateman and Victoria Elizabeth. His father is an actor-director-writer-producer who starred on the soap opera Love of Life, and his mother is a former flight attendant. He has three sisters: Justine, Rachael, and Leah. Jason spent his early childhood in Los Angeles, but moved to Salt Lake City, Utah when he was four years old. His family is Latter-day Saint (Mormon).
Jason attended high school at Highland High School in Salt Lake City, where he was valedictorian of his class. He then attended the University of California, Los Angeles on a scholarship, majoring in Theater Arts. After college, Bateman worked various jobs including as a receptionist for a solar energy company and as an assistant director for a porn movie. He eventually found work as an actor in commercials and guest spots on television shows such as Silver Spoons and The Hogan Family.
Bateman’s break came when he was cast as Michael Bluth in the sitcom Arrested Development in 2003. The show was a critical and commercial success, winning six Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe Award. Jason Bateman comes from a very supportive family. His parents, Kent and Victoria Bateman, have been married for over 50 years and have always encouraged their children to pursue their dreams.
