Akademiks back in Rutgers, he started his own website, Late Night Creep. where he covered hip-hop music news. He thereafter expanded to the urban entertainment industry, sharing light-hearted and satirical videos on YouTube. His YouTube earned a significant popularity in 2014 due partly to his coverage of the drill music scene in Chicago.
Back in 2018, he began started his new music project, Lil AK. In December 2018, and later released the first EP called Clout Chaser, consisting of 4 tracks. Back on February 13, 2019, he released a track featuring Teka$hi69, called LANES and the song earned over 3 million views on Youtube in 8 months. Back in October 18, 2019, he released his new single Hypebeast.and in December of 2019 he announced that he was the host and executive producer of the Snap Originals docuseries, Tekashi Vs. The World.

Back in 2018, DJ Akademiks was in a controversy after a rival blog Hip Hop Overload began claiming that Akademiks was an informant working for federal agents helping to bring down the rapper Teka$hi69 (6ix9ine) for racketeering. The blog penned that Tekashi’s former manager Kifano Jordan named him a fake best friend of the rapper, and agreed to an informant role to help him avoid being charged with obstruction of justice.
After the allegations he approached the media company TMZ to revive his innocence. In a public statement, he sahred that he has never been questioned nor co-operated in any of the issues he’s been accused of. Kifano Jordan’s lawyer also made a statement denying his client had been in any interview that implicated someone in crime.
