Gohar Rasheed is a Pakistani television and film actor. He is best known for his performance in the movie ‘Seedlings,’ for which he also earned nominations at the New York Film Festival (NYFF) in the Best Actor in a Supporting Role category.

Gohar Rasheed was born on Wednesday, 2 May 1984 (age 37 years; as of 2021) in the Lahore province of Punjab, Pakistan. His zodiac sign is Taurus. He did his schooling at a local school in Lahore. After completing his primary and secondary education, he got himself enrolled at Government College University, Lahore.

Career

Theater

Gohar Rasheed after completing his education in Lahore went to Karachi to pursue his career in media production. After working for more than three years as a line producer at Hum TV, he developed an interest in acting and decided to face the camera and pursue his career in acting. Gohar Rasheed is amongst the few Pakistani actors who have earned professional degrees in acting and theatre before establishing their careers in the entertainment industry. In 2008, Gohar Rasheed started working as a theater artist and made his debut with Shah Sharabeel’s project named ‘Bombay Dreams,’ in which he played the character of an Indian character named Vikram. After delivering a commendable performance in Bombay Dreams, he managed to grab roles in many theater shows. Next, he portrayed the character of ‘The Duke of Monmouth’ in the theatrical musical play ‘Moulin Rouge,’ which proved to be the gamechanger show for him. Thereafter, Gohar became part of many commercially successful and big banner theater dramas including Anwar Maqsood and Dawar Mehmood’s political play ‘The Sawa 14 August’ as a General Zia-ul-Haq and as  Iftekhar in ‘Half Plate.’

Television

Gohar Rasheed made his television debut in 2010, with a supporting role in ARY Digital’s drama serial ‘Daddy.’ Next, he appeared in the drama serial ‘Shikwa,’ telecasted on ARY Digital in 2014 and gained huge critical acclaim for his performance. Shikwa proved to be a game-changer for him, after which he became part of many popular shows like Digest Writer, Goyaa, Khuda Na Karay, and Nazdeekiyan. After delivering the role of Shaukt in Hum TV’s blockbuster serial ‘Digest Writer,’ Gohar Rasheed signed three dramas of ARY Digital including Bismil, Amitraz, and Paiwan.

With every passing show, Gohar continued to brush up his acting skills and grabbed opportunities to work on many big banner projects. In 2016, Gohar appeared on screens as Meekail Shahaab for Hum TV romantic drama television series ‘Mann Mayal’ opposite Maya Ali, Hamza Ali Abbasi, and Ayesha Khan; Thought he played a negative character of a highly insensitive and heartless person, he still received huge appreciation and popularity for his role, and Gohar developed his identity as a lead character in the shows. Thereafter, he showed in many commercially successful shows including Meri Nanhi Pari, Badshah Begum, Ramz-e-Ishq, Ishqiya, Raaz-e-Ulfat, Pardes, and Laapata.

Film

Gohar Rasheed marked his film debut in 2013, with Mansoor Mujahid’s social drama film ‘Seedlings,’ opposite Mohib Mirza and Aamina Sheikh. The film also released its world premiere in the United States at the New York Film Festival and received several awards and nominations in various international film festivals across the globe. Gohar Rasheed bagged several international nominations for delivering the character of Anil with utmost perfection.

In the same year, Gohar again appeared on the silver screen as Kashif Ali a.k.a. Kaali Andhi in Syed Ali Raza Usama’s sports film ‘Main Hoon Shahid Afridi.’ The film also featured Humayun Saeed, Javed Shaikh, Noman Habib, Nadeem Baig, Shafqat Cheema, Ismail Tara, Ainy Jaffri, Hamza Ali Abbasi, and Shehzad Sheikh.

In 2015, Gohar Rasheed made a cameo appearance in the adventure comedy film ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani.’ Gohar Rasheed featured in two consecutively released films Yalghaar and Rangreza in 2017. The release dates for his films ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ and ‘Kambakht’ were postponed in 2020 due to the Covid 19 pandemic around the globe.

  • Gohar Rasheed’s favourite characters of himself that he played on screen are Adnan in Goya and a role of a gangster in Operation 021. While talking about his favourite roles, he said,

    I would say the one I did in Operation 021 even though it was only for 15 minutes. I played the character of gangster and then the character of Adnan in Goya. The thing is I don’t want to limit myself to drama as my only objective is to be an actor, so whether it is film, drama, or theatre, doesn’t matter. Actually I did another character in a theater play as General Zia Ulhaq which I really enjoyed. The play was titled Sawa Chauda August and it was written by Anwer Maqsood.”

  • Gohar Rasheed is an avid animal lover and also has a pet dog in his house, whom he calls Barfi.
