Career
Sanjay Singh is an Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer of the 1996 batch from the Odisha cadre. He was appointed as the superintendent of police in Odisha Police in October 1999. He then served as the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Drug Task Force (DTF) in Odisha. Later, he served as the commissioner of Bhubaneswar and as additional commissioner of Twin City, Odisha Police. He was one of the investigating officers in the Commonwealth Games scam in 2010. He was appointed as the Inspector General of Police, Government of India, on 31 January 2015. He was on deputation to the NCB in January 2021. Sanjay has also served as the Deputy Director-General (DDG) at the Narcotics Control Bureau. After the removal of NCB’s zonal director, Sameer Wankhede in the famous cruise drug case of Aryan Khan and a few other people in 2021, Sanjay was appointed as the head of the Special Investigating Team of the NCB. Apart from the drugs-on-the-cruise case, five other cases which were headed by Sameer Wankhede were transferred to him in 2021.
