Sachin Rajesh Pilot is an Indian Politician and one of the important leaders of the Indian National Congress. Following the footsteps of his father, Pilot has been a lieutenant in the Indian Army and has also been an important statesman. Apart from being a parliamentarian in the 14th and 15th Lok Sabha, he has also handled the portfolio of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in Manmohan Singh’s government.

Sachin Pilot was born in a Gujjar family on 7 September 1977 in Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, India. His father, Rajesh Pilot was a pilot in the Indian Air Force and a famous politician of the Indian National Congress. His mother, Rama Pilot was also a politician; a member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, and Indian Parliament. Sachin received his primary education from Air Force Bal Bharati School, New Delhi. For his higher education, he attended St. Stephens College at the University of Delhi and completed his Bachelor of Arts. He also enrolled at I.M.T. Ghaziabad to receive a Diploma in Marketing. To pursue his M.B.A., he was admitted to the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, United States.

He was born to Rajesh Pilot (also known as Rajeshwar Prasad) and Rama Pilot.

On 15 January 2004, Sachin married Sara Abdullah (daughter of Farooq Abdullah; former Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir).
The couple has two sons, Aaran and Vehaan.
Sachin and Sara later divorced; the divorce was officially confirmed through an affidavit filed by Sachin during the 2023 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly elections in which he mentioned his marital status as ‘divorced.’
Career
He was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in the 2004 general election from the Dausa constituency of Rajasthan. and became a member of the Standing Committee in the Ministry of Home Affairs and a member of the Consultative Committee in the Ministry of Civil Aviation. In the 2009 Lok Sabha Election, he was elected to the Parliament from Ajmer constituency. In October 2012, he became a Union Cabinet Minister in Manmohan Singh’s government and handled the portfolio of Corporate Affairs.
On 6 September 2012, he was the first minister to be commissioned as an officer in the Territorial Army. He is therefore known as Lieutenant Pilot for being an officer in the Territorial Army.
In 2014, he was appointed as President of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. Sachin was defeated by Sanwarlal Jat of the BJP by a margin of 1,71,983 votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha Election. Amid the growing strain between Pilot and Ashok Gehlot, Pilot claimed that 30 MLAs were backing him, and Gehlot’s government was in the minority. After this statement, speculations became rife about joining the BJP. On 14 July 2020, he was sacked from every office he held in Rajasthan. Later, he took to Twitter to share that “Truth only triumphs.”

Sachin contested and won the 2023 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly elections from the Tonk constituency; he defeated the BJP candidate Ajit Singh Mehta by a margin of 29,475 votes.

Later both became MPs on Congress tickets and ministers in the government. It is clear that Indira Gandhi gave respect and a place in politics as a reward to those who carried out air raids on their own people in the North East.”
In response, Sachin later posted a certificate that his father received from President V. V. Giri on being appointed as a Pilot Officer in the Indian Air Force on 10 February 1970. He pointed out the inaccuracies in Malviya’s post, emphasizing that his father did conduct bombing operations, but it was in erstwhile East Pakistan during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, not in Mizoram.
