AP Singh aka Ajay Prakash Singh aka Dr A. P. Singh was born on Saturday, 1 July 1972 (age 51 years; as of 2023) in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, India. His zodiac sign is Cancer. During his childhood, he shifted to Delhi along with his family. During his upbringing, Ajay felt deeply concerned about the lack of equal opportunities for the underprivileged in India to access justice. He observed that the police system often fell short of delivering justice. This realization motivated him to pursue a career in law with the aim of advocating for the rights of the marginalized. According to Singh, he had the unwavering support of his father, who shared his belief in the importance of seeking justice and encouraged him to become a lawyer. He later pursued an LLB at Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow and then an LL. M. at Delhi University. He also holds a Doctorate in Criminology from the University of California.

AP Singh began his career in 1997 as a trainee lawyer in the Supreme Court, where he was part of the case hearings of Tantrik Chandraswami who was accused of fraud, money laundering, and blackmail. He officially enrolled as a lawyer in 1998 at the Lucknow Bar Association. Throughout his career, he has handled numerous high-profile cases, gaining significant attention for his role as a defence attorney in various prominent trials. He represented the accused in various cases such as the Nirbhaya Rape case in 2012, the Sant Rampal case in 2014, the cases of Sant Ram Rahim in 2019, the Hathras Rape case in 2020, and the Seema Haider case in 2023.
During his career, AP Singh also took on cases involving Aam Aadmi Party MLAs in Delhi, several MPs and MLAs from Odisha, various Naxalite-related cases in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, and cases of several Bahubali leaders. As a lawyer who has taken on high-profile and contentious cases, AP Singh has attracted both praise and controversy throughout his career.
Nirbhaya Case
In the course of his legal journey, he shared a deeply personal connection to the Nirbhaya case, as one of the victim’s wives approached his mother seeking justice. Moved by their plea, Ajay’s mother urged him to fight for the victim’s family and help them find closure and justice. On one occasion, he commented that Nirbhaya’s parents were irresponsible, which garnered significant criticism from the public and media. Later, after a court hearing, he reportedly told Nirbhaya’s mother, Asha Devi, that he would not allow the killers to be hanged, further fueling public scrutiny and debate surrounding his remarks and actions during the legal proceedings.
Seema Haider Case
He also drew attention when he represented Seema Haider in a case in July 2023. Seema Haider illegally crossed the Indian border in May 2023 to live with her lover Sachin Meena. After submitting a 38-page petition in the case, he requested the Indian government to give Indian citizenship to Haider, comparing it to Adnan Sami’s Indian citizenship status, based on his long-time stay in the country.

Controversy
During an interview, in 2013, AP Singh said that he would burn his daughter alive if she ever indulged in acts of pre-marital sex or lowered her moral standards. He said,
If my daughter or my sister engages in pre-marital or meretricious relationship, or if she lowers her moral standards and character, i will definitely burn her alive in front of my family members.”
This soon led to mass outrage across the country, and later, he was heavily criticised by the public. Referring to his statement, he then, in an interview, said that he gave this statement in a fit of the moment, as the interviewer was constantly getting too personal, which had provoked him to respond in that manner.

- AP Singh disclosed in an interview that Tantrik Chandraswami, after having his case fought in the Supreme Court, gifted him two pairs of coats, pants, and robes. Their association extended to Chandraswami inviting him on various foreign tours.
- He has held the position of National Secretary General in the BSK Lawyers Federation.
- Apart from working as a lawyer, AP Singh has been actively involved in various social organizations, with a particular focus on Men’s Rights and the Rights of the Kayastha Community. He has held the position of vice president in the Akhil Bharatiya Kayastha Mahasabha (ABKM). In an interview, he expressed his desire to initiate a Men’s Rights movement to address concerns related to the misuse of laws by women, with the aim of preventing men from facing undue suffering or injustice.
