Wiki/Biography

Bhojaraj Ramchandrappa Patil was born on Tuesday, 15 November 1949 (age 74 years; as of 2023) in Sarasamba, Aland Taluk, Gulbarga, Karnataka. His zodiac sign is Scorpio. He studied at Government High School, Hodlur, Karnataka. He pursued a bachelor’s degree in arts at Sharnbasveshwar Residential Public School, Gulbarga, Karnataka and L.L.B degree at Seth Shankarlal Lahoti Law College, Kalaburagi. Patil’s father, Ramachandrappa, was a freedom fighter who stood against the Razakar Army of the ruling Nizam. Unfortunately, Ramachandrappa passed away when Patil was only two years old. After that, Patil’s mother took care of him and his two siblings, facing many hardships. She worked very hard to take care of three distant farmlands. Despite this, she ensured that her sons received an education without burdening them with her own struggles. According to Patil, his mother was a religious person who didn’t have a formal education, but she loved reading religious texts like Puranas and other spiritual writings. Since Patil’s father was not around, his mother had a big influence on his childhood. She showed strength during tough times, was devoted to her religious beliefs, and taught him discipline, generosity, and honesty. She instilled important values in him. Another significant influence in Patil’s life was his uncle, Sharannappa Patil, who hailed from Keshegaon, Maharashtra. He was a revolutionary who followed the teachings of Patil’s father, Ramachandra, during India’s struggle for independence. After independence, Sharannappa became a politician. He played a fatherly role in Patil’s life and passed on the leadership qualities he learned from his brother-in-law Ramachandra to his nephew Patil. In doing so, he became a bridge between the absent father and the young child. During his childhood, he was quite active and mischievous, but he also noticed the hardships faced by the villagers. As he got older, he turned into a leader with a desire to bring positive changes and solve the problems faced by the villagers. In an interview, he recalled that when he was in high school, he displayed his leadership skills by forming a group of young people to put an end to the bootleggers’ harmful liquor production that was affecting the villagers.

  • On 25 July 2023, a letter written by him to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was widely shared on the internet. In the letter, he claimed that ministers were not releasing funds for his constituency and accused the district in-charge minister, Priyank Kharge, of not providing funds as well. When the media questioned him, he initially admitted to writing the letter, but later he said the letter was fake. He accused someone of creating the fake letter to create a divide between him and Priyank Kharge. In an interview, he said,

The letter purportedly written to the CM is fake. Someone has made the letter viral using my fake letterhead. I have a serial number on my letterhead. This is a copy of the letter head that I had when I was an MLA earlier. It has Shanti Nagar house address. The new letterhead has the address of Akka Mahadevi Colony residence. This letter has been planted to create a rift between me and Minister Priyank Kharge. I will lodge a complaint with the SP in this regard. The BJP might have done this.”

According to reports, many Congress MLAs were said to have signed the letter addressed to the Chief Minister. Basavaraj Rayareddy, the Congress legislator from Yelburga, confirmed that he signed the letter written by Patil.

  • In 2023, Patil expressed his concerns about the Fasal Bima Yojana, stating that it not only harmed farmers but also exploited and robbed them. He highlighted the importance of improving agriculture markets. Patil also pointed out that farmers who grow perishable fruits and vegetables faced vulnerability as their produce was spoiled quickly if not sold promptly to traders. Additionally, he criticized insurance companies for charging high premiums but offering meagre payouts when farmers made claims, while these companies made substantial profits themselves.
