Badrul Islam was born in an Islamic family in India. When he was was child, he watched the blockbuster Bollywood film ‘Sholay’ after which he got fascinated by films and decided to become an actor. He studied at Jamia Milia Islamia in Delhi. While studying at college, he used to participate in street plays during cultural events. He also went to Haryana to perform a play in a village, where he won the title of best actor. Later, he joined the Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts in New Delhi and also worked at the National School of Drama in New Delhi.

Theatre
Before working in TV and films, Badrul Islam started his acting career by working in theatre. He has acted in many theatrical productions.
Television
In 2005, he debuted with Sahara One’s drama TV series ‘Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki’ in which he played the supporting role of Rangeela.
From 2018 to 2020, he played the role of Mustafa in Sony Sab’s fantasy TV series ‘Aladdin – Naam Toh Suna Hoga.’ In 2023, he was cast in a lead role as Bheem Dubey in Colors TV’s show ‘Suhaagan.’

In 2006, Badrul Islam debuted in the Indian film industry with the musical drama film ‘Rang De Basanti.’
In 2010, he acted in the comedy-drama film ‘Tere Bin Laden’ in which he appeared as the Baang Comp Host. In 2014, he appeared in a supporting role in the romantic comedy film ‘Khoobsurat’ starring Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan in lead roles. He gained more popularity after playing the supporting role of a chicken shop owner in the 2016 popular biography film ‘Dangal’ starring Aamir Khan.
In 2018, he played the role of Kalyan in the Bollywood drama film ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ in which Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor were cast in lead roles. In 2022, he played the role of an autorickshaw owner in Netflix’s romantic comedy film ‘Plan A Plan B.’ In the same year, he appeared as Tillu Mandothiya, a news reporter, in the action comedy film ‘An Action Hero’ starring Ayushmann Khurrana.
