Bianca Andreescu was born on Friday, 16 June 2000 (age 19 years; as in 2019) in Mississauga, Canada. Her zodiac sign is Gemini. She did her schooling from the Bill Crothers Secondary School in Markham, Canada. Bianca did not attend college to focus on her tennis career. Although Bianca was born in Canada, her parents had migrated there from Romania and were of Romanian descent. A few years after Bianca was born, her family moved back to Romania to their native place. Bianca studied in Romania for a few years and knows fluent Romanian. Her nickname is Bibi.

While she was in Romania, her parents made her try out various sports. however, Bianca loved tennis the most, and she was good at it too. From the age of 7, she started playing tennis regularly. A couple of years later, Bianca’s family moved back to Canada. After moving back, she joined the Ontario Racquet Club in Mississauga to receive proper training from a professional coach. When Bianca was 11 years old, she got enrolled in Team Canada’s Under-14 National Training Centre in Toronto.

Career

Bianca’s first breakthrough was in 2014 when she was selected by Canada’s Under-14 team to represent Canada in the “Les Petits As” tournament in France. The “Les Petits As” is the most prestigious Under-14 tournament in the world. Bianca won the tournament, and it was after winning this tournament that she got serious about pursuing tennis as a career. Once, in an interview, she stated that it was in France that she signed her first autograph and gave her first interview, which made her feel special.

In 2014, she participated in many junior level tournaments, and she ended the year by winning the Orange Bowl in Florida. In 2015, Bianca made her International Tennis Federation (ITF) debut by participating in the 25K Gatineau event, but she lost in the finals. However, in December 2015, when she was only 15 years old, she became the first Canadian since 2009 to win the Grade-A Under-18 “Orange Bowl” tournament.

In 2016, Bianca participated in the “2016 Challenger Banque Nationale de Gatineau” tournament and won her first ITF title. Romanian player Simona Halep, an old friend of Bianca, had also participated in the tournament. Simona saw Bianca’s game, and she strongly advised her to turn pro as soon as possible. Bianca took her advice, and she turned pro in 2017.

In 2017, Bianca participated and won in two 25K titles. Thereafter, she took part in the “Citi Open” where she defeated World No. 13 Kristina Mladenovic. This victory also made her the first player born in the 2000s to defeat a player in the Top 20. Even though she did not win the title, she made a name for herself in the Citi Open. 2019 proved to be a breakthrough year for her. She won her first “125K WTA Tournament” in Newport Beach, US. She reached the semi-finals of the Mexican Open. She also achieved her best ranking of World No. 60 after the Mexican Open.

In March 2019, she participated in the “BNP Paribas Open” in Indian Wells, California. She defeated Angelique Kerber and won her first WTA Tour title. It also helped her to become World No. 24.

In August 2019, Bianca participated in the 2019 Rogers Cup (Canadian Open). She reached the finals and defeated Serena Williams, to become the first Canadian since 1969 to win the Rogers Cup. She states it as one of the biggest victories of her career, as it brought joy and pride to her country.

In September 2019, she set many records after she defeated Serena Williams in the US Open. She became the first Canadian woman to win a Grand Slam singles title, the first woman to win the US Open in her debut, and the first player born in the 2000s to win a Grand Slam Tournament. It also helped her achieve the World No. 5 ranking.
