As per his mother, Turk created a rain well and a device for measuring precipitation. According to him collecting that data was “fun” and he never knew he would find himself on the big screen.

Turk helped the WJZ weather team select the Doppler radar weather system known as First Warning Weather and put the station further on the map as the first Baltimore television station to have such sophisticated weather forecasting technology. First Warning Weather’s local live Doppler radar helps the weather team to track rain and storms from neighborhood to neighborhood.
Bob Turk Sunshine
Due to his long tenure at WNZ, Bob has come to be known as the Sunshine Kid. He joined the station in the 1970s and even received a silver circle Emmy award for his long service at WJZ.

Bob Turk Education

He attended local schools in his hometown before joining Towson State College (now Towson University) from where he graduated with a B.S. degree in geography. He then taught at an elementary school in Baltimore city before his post-graduate studies. Bob proceeded to join the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a Master’s degree in geography.
