Diao Aiqing Murdered Brutally
Diao Aiqing’s body, which was boiled, cut into over 2,000 pieces, and wrapped in bags, was found nine days later at eight locations near the university campus. The brutality of the murder stunned China, but the murderer escaped justice. According to the lawsuit, the university owes the family 1.62 million yuan (US$246,000) for funeral fees.
Zhou, a lawyer with Beijing Yifa Law Firm, argued that Nanjing University should have informed Diao’s family that she was missing when she failed to return home on the night of January 10. Instead, they did not notify the family until after police found Diao’s body.
In an statement Zhou said, “It is precisely because Nanjing University did not perform its dormitory management responsibilities that the case missed the best time window for investigation and the murderer had sufficient time to commit the crime and escape. The lack of evidence causes the case to remain unsolved for 25 years.”
The DNA collected from a suspect involved in a crime very similar to Diao’s was found 28 years ago in Nanjing, where a medical school student was raped and killed. Police eventually identified a male family member of the suspect to be the killer of the medical student.
