YouTube

Eric Berg has a YouTube channel named Dr. Eric Berg DC, and as of December 2022, he has more than 9.05 million subscribers. He posted his first video on 19 December 2008, in which he talked about working on the weight reduction of Duane Clemons, a former NFL player. On his YouTube channel, he uploads videos in which he talks about dieting, intermittent fasting, the pros and cons of consuming different types of food, and more. In 2018, his videos on YouTube got more than 500,000 views per day. Every day, he published two videos, one in the morning and one in the evening. During a podcast in 2018, when asked about how he creates videos and from where he gets the ideas for making such videos, he said that he gets up early in the morning to conduct research on the topic that he has planned to cover in his YouTube video. While talking about it, he said,

Well, it’s one of those things. I was just lucky. Overnight it happened just like that. No. No. It did not happen overnight. It’s something called blood, sweat, and tears. I put the time in now. I actually get up at 5:30 and I work on weekends but I’m really not working, I would do this as a hobby. I love doing it. So there’s momentum and then you just keep finding ways to widen the sphere of spaces, you know? You have this thing that you do and then you find ways of like other platforms where I am doing a podcast now. We’re going to do Pinterest. But I’m not going to do those all at once, I’m just focused at one. I’m focused on YouTube and I’ll just take from there and keep expanding it to different platforms.”

In a podcast, he also claimed that when he started posting videos on YouTube, he did not get many views on it, and it depressed him.

Controversies

Forcing an employee to convert to Scientology

In 2017, Brenda Valentine, an employee of Eric Berg, complained against him and claimed that she was fired by Eric after she refused to convert to Scientology. She also claimed that she was forced by Eric Berg to undergo Scientology courses in Washington, D. C. She also said that Eric would frequently read sentences and phrases from several Scientology books to her, despite her disapproval.

A feud between Ian and Eric

In May 2021, Ian Rafalko, son of Eric Berg, posted a video on TikTok and Twitter in which he claimed that he was forced to follow Scientology by his family. He also said that when he publically renounced Scientology, his father came to his house and aggressively knocked at his door. Eric, however, had to leave when the neighbours threatened to call the cops. Ian also uploaded a controversial video on Twitter and talked about Dr Eric following Scientology. In the video, he claimed that his father was selfish and void of empathy for humans. According to Ian, a margin of the profit that Eric earns from selling his products goes to Scientology. Talking about it, he said,

So after I make this video and it goes public my life will be over. That uh… my life’s been over for a while, so. I thought I might at least go out with a big bang. Some of you might know this guy, Eric. He has a few thousand videos on YouTube. He is pretty popular at this point. He gives a lot of health advice. He is a chiropractor, as you can see, so… Not only is this man a Scientologist but he donates copious amounts. His profit margins are insane, they are through the roof. So he’s donated probably around 7 plus million dollars to Scientology? And every product of his that you buy, you donate to Scientology as well, because he has a separate savings account just for that. He is an incredibly selfish and void-of-empathy human being. And the reason I know is because he is my father.”

Eric responded to Ian’s allegations by writing an email to Twitter, urging them to remove his video.
