Gagan Gowda was born as ‘Gagan Raju Gowda’ on Thursday, 22 May 2003 (age 21 years; as of 2024) in Mangalore, Karnataka. His zodiac sign is Gemini. He completed his schooling at Sri Ramakrishna School in Mangalore. Gagan completed his graduation at the Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) college in Ujire, Karnataka. Gagan Gowda started his kabaddi journey when he was in the 8th standard. Alongside kabaddi, he was also playing volleyball but he was more inclined towards kabaddi.

In 2023, Gagan Gowda was selected by the team ‘Hampi Heroes’ in the Yuva Kabaddi Series Summer Edition which was held in Mysore. He played a total of 23 matches in which he scored 262 points and performed a total of 280 raids, and he held a raid strike rate of 93.21% and a tackle success rate of 16.67%.
After his amazing performance in the Yuva Kabaddi Series, Gagan was picked by the Lucknow-based team ‘UP Yoddhas’ for season 10 of the Pro Kabaddi League 2023, in which Gagan was selected under the New Young Players (NYP) category. He held an overall raid strike rate of 63% in the tournament.

- He considers the kabaddi players Ajay Thakur and Anup Kumar his biggest inspirations for their hand touch and bonus skills respectively.
- Initially, due to his height and weight, Gagan faced difficulty in qualifying for different age categories. The coach asked him to lose weight due to which he got more prone to injuries as a thin person has less soft tissue coverage. This is why he missed out on 2 junior national championships.
