Herbert Walter Dahmer’s Grandson – Jeffrey Dahmer

Jeffrey Dahmer was the grandson of Herbert Walter Dahmer, a successful Milwaukee businessman. His parents, Lionel and Joyce, raised him in a middle-class household, but Jeffrey had behavioral issues from an early age. He was convicted of 15 murders in 1992. He was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD). Dahmer had been an “energetic and happy child” but became notably subdued after double hernia surgery shortly before his fourth birthday.

Psychologists believe that the surgery coupled with the use of anesthesia as a young age may have caused Dahmer to become introverted and emotionally withdrawn from the people around him. Dahmer manifested an interest in dead animals, from an early age. This included dissection of animals, collecting animal bones, and even attempting to create a “zombie” by injecting animals with acid and other chemicals. He also attempted to create a type of “superhuman” by preserving the heads and other body parts of animals. He also began collecting dead animals—including roadkill—which he would dissect and bury beside the hut, with the skulls occasionally placed atop makeshift crosses.
