Jacob deGrom was raised by his parents Tony, an AT&T lineman, and Tammy, a customer service representative for a credit card rewards program. Tony deGrom built a batting cage in the backyard for his son to practice. Jacob deGrom credits his father for his quiet intensity and remembers demanding sessions playing catch in their yard. Jacob deGrom’s mother is Tammy deGrom. Tammy has been a constant support for Jacob throughout his baseball career from Little League to the Major Leagues. She has been described by Jacob as his “rock” and someone who has always believed in him and encouraged him to pursue his dreams.
Tammy deGrom was a softball player in high school and played an important role in shaping Jacob’s love for baseball. She often played catch with him in their backyard and when Jacob was old enough to start playing Little League, Tammy became his coach.

Despite the challenges of raising a family while her husband was serving in the US Marine Corps, Tammy was always there for Jacob and his siblings.
