The Journey of becoming Bike-ambulance-dada

In 1995, a sad incident changed his life as his mother was very ill and required immediate medical treatment, but he could not find any ambulance to take his mother to the hospital. At last, his mother passed away due to a cardiac arrest, and after this incident, he decided to do something to help people in case of a medical emergency. The idea of motorcycle ambulance came into his mind when one of his colleagues collapsed, and Karimul tied him to to his back and rushed to a nearby hospital on a motorcycle in 1998. After this incident, he decided to start his motorcycle ambulance and bought a motorcycle of his own on a loan. Since 1998, he has been providing motorcycle ambulance services in more than 20 villages in nearby villages and has helped more than 5500 people (as of 2020) in case of medical emergencies. Apart from ambulance services, he provides basic first aid training to the local people with the help of doctors.

  • Karimul is a worker in a tea garden in Malbazar and earns Rs 5000 only, and all his salary goes to his ambulance service.
  • He has also organised various social awareness camps and helps needy people. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, he donated food and clothes to the poor people.
  • In an interview, he talked about his ultimate dream, he said,

I want an ambulance fitted with advanced healthcare facilities. This will help people who live in remote areas in a big way.”

  • He has received many awards including Ananya Samaan from Zee Group’s 24 ghanta news channel in 2012.
