Lee Sang-eun (1977-2023) was a South Korean soprano singer. In 2023, she was found dead, at the age of 43, in a bathroom a few minutes before her performance.

Lee Sang-eun was born in 1977 (age 46 years; at the time of death) in South Korea. She studied at Seoul Arts High School. She graduated from Seoul National University. Later, she pursued a master’s degree at Mannes School of Music in New York.

Death
On 6 July 2023, she was found dead in a bathroom. She was invited to perform at the 33rd Regular Concert of the Gimcheon Municipal Choir, which was a joint concert with the Mokpo Municipal Choir. When it was time for her performance and she did not appear for it, an event staffer went to look for her and found her dead body in the women’s bathroom on the third floor of the concert’s venue. In an interview, the event staffer talked about it and said,
It was time for Lee Sang Eun to come on stage, but she wasn’t backstage. When I looked in the bathroom, I found her lying on the floor.”
According to sources, the police investigated the incident; however, they did not suspect any foul play.

- In 2022, she presented a recital at the Kumho Art Hall Yonsei in Seoul.
- Before her demise, the singer had a scheduled performance of ‘Carmina Burana,’ a vocal composition, at the Grand Hall of Gimcheon Culture and Art Center. This performance was part of a commemoration event for cultural exchange between England and Honam.
