Husband
Leena Maria Paul is married to the Indian conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. Sukesh is the prime accused of Rs. 200-crore money laundering case that was investigated in 2021. According to some sources, soon after their marriage, the couple developed differences between each other, and they had even planned to get separated; however they resolved their differences in 2011, and again, they started living together.
Career
Leena Maria Paul stepped into the field of acting in 2009 with the Malayalam-language crime thriller film “Red Chillies.” The film was directed by Shaji Kailas, and Leena played a supporting character named ‘Roya Kareena’ in the film. Leena had the opportunity to act with the Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in the film. Next, she appeared in a Malayalam-language film “Cobra” opposite Mammootty, Lalu Alex, Kaniha, Padmapriya, and a few others. She has also appeared in Saji Surendran’s comedy film “Husbands in Goa” (2012).
Leena Maria Paul gained the limelight after featuring in the John Abraham starter political action thriller film “Madras Cafe.” The Bollywood film was released in theatres on 23 August 2013. Leena played the character of a RAW Decoder in the film.
Fraudulent Activities
Leena Maria Paul was involved in fraud activities since her entry into Bollywood. In 2013, Leena was arrested in a case of siphoning off Rs Rs. 19 crore from the Teynampet branch of Canara Bank. Her husband, Sukesh Chandrasekhar, was also arrested in the same case. Police officials seized a number of expensive cars and 81 expensive wristwatches from the couples’ residences in Banglore.
In another fraud case, Leena Maria Paul and Sukesh Chandrasekhar were arrested for extracting money from individuals in the disguise of the grandson of a former chief minister. The couple sought bail in the case and later relocated to Mumbai.
Leena Maria Paul, while residing in Mumbai, planned another scam with her husband. The duo offered to pay at least 20 per cent monthly returns to the investors for their investment of Rs 5000 to Rs 5 lakh. Later, both of them were arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of Mumbai from Goregaon for their involvement in a scam of Rs 10 crore. Dhananjay Kamalakar, Joint Commissioner of Police (EOW), explained the incident as,
We received information that a group of individuals was convincing people to pay anything between Rs 5000 and Rs 5 lakh, promising that they would get at least 20 per cent returns on their investments every month. They even promised as high as 300 per cent returns. Our information indicated that they planned to flee the city within a few days, and we arrested them.”
In 2018, Leena Maria Paul made headlines after a shootout incident took place at her beauty parlour in Kochi. The incident took place on 15 December 2018. According to reports, underworld gangster Ravi Pujari tried extorting money from Leena, and a heated argument took place between them. The situation got worse when Ravi fired a pistol outside her beauty parlour.
In 2021, Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing arrested Leena Maria Paul along with her husband, Sukesh Chandrasekhar, in the cheating case of Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh’s wife, Aditi Singh, for Rs. 200 crore. Ms Singh registered an FIR on 7 August 2021 against a man posing as a senior official of the Law Ministry who had offered to help secure bail for her husband in exchange of huge amount of money. According to Leena Maria Paul’s lawyer, she was not involved in any of the cases, and he, on her behalf, said,
The main accused has been in Tihar jail for so many years. There are two FIRs in this case and there is no role of mine in both cases. All properties she was enjoying, as per the prosecution, have been sealed. I have been asked to come to Delhi and join investigation without notice, I did not question that.”
The Supreme Court of India dismissed her bail plea on 30 October 2023. The bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi mentioned the charges against her as serious. Her bail plea was earlier rejected by the Delhi High Court on 11 July 2023.
