Manish Kashyap is a journalist from Bihar who reports on various social issues through his channel Sach Tak News. He is a civil engineer by qualification. He became popular after reporting during the Bihar migrant clashes in Tamil Nadu. Several of his videos and social media posts were termed fake, which he denied.

Manish Kashyap aka Tripurari Kumar Tiwari aka Er. Manish Kasyap was born on Saturday, 9 March 1991 (age 32 years; as of 2023) in Mahanwa Dumri village, 25 km from Bettiah, West Champaran, Bihar. His zodiac sign is Pisces. He studied at the government school in his village. He completed Civil Engineering at Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune in 2016.

Journalist
In an interview, he said that he decided to become a journalist after facing corruption personally when he was asked bribe by a government official while trying to get his driving licence re-issued after he lost his driving licence. He started his news channel on YouTube and named it Sach Tak News. His channel gained popularity when he raised many issues related to corruption by showing the poor condition of roads, schools, and hospitals in Bihar. He became famous for asking questions to the teachers of schools, registrars of universities, and government doctors. He revealed in an interview that he aims to show the ground reality of Bihar through his videos. He also interviewed various celebrities and politicians including Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, the teacher Khan Sir from Patna, and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son and Environment, Forest & Climate Change minister in the Bihar state government, Tej Pratap Yadav.

In Bihar 2020 Legislative elections, he contested elections as an independent candidate from Chanpatia, West Champaran. His election symbol was a farmer driving tractor. He came third with 9239 votes (5.26% votes of the total casted votes).
Controversies
Collecting Money by Cheating
In 2019, A FIR was registered against him in Bettiah Nagar Police Station with FIR No. 338/2019 under IPC sections 420 (Forgery), 419, 467, 471, 471F, and 471G regarding collecting money from the public in his personal account by misleading posts through his social media handles.
Attack on Police personnel
Another case was recorded against him in Bettiah Nagar Police Station with FIR No. 290/2019 under IPC sections 353, 337, 338, 188, 147,148, and 149 for an attack on a police official named Ram Singh, obstructing government work, and trying to cause riots.
Attempt to Murder Case
In 2019, it was alleged that he along with a crowd of 100 people attacked a teacher named Arvind Kumar at Arvind’s home, beat him, and vandalised a bike which was parked in front of his house. The crowd also beat the ladies in Arvind’s house including his wife. An FIR was registered in Bettiah Nagar Police Station with FIR No. 289/2019 under IPC sections 354(B), 307, 338, 341, 323, 427, 504, 148, 149, 188, and 448.
Forming a gang
There was another case registered against him in 2019 in Bettiah Nagar Police Station with FIR No. 109/2019 under IPC sections 427, 50, 148, 149, 147, 188, and 120(B) for forming a gang and creating a stir in society by violent activities.
Destruction to Bettiah Railway station
A case was registered against him in Bettiah Railway Court in 2020 with case number 743/2020 for causing destruction to the railway station and to government property under sections 145,146, and 174(A).
Hooliganism
An FIR was registered against Manish Kashyap in the Kotwali area in Patna with FIR number 134/2019 under sections 148,148,149, 341, 324 (Violence), 448, 342, 323, 504, and 506 for causing violence in public and hooliganism.
Obstructing government work
An FIR was registered against him in the Manjhauliya Police Station with FIR number 737/2019 under the IPC sections 307 (Attempt to murder), 147, and 323 (Violence) for beating up a person. When a police personnel went to stop the incident, he also beat him up for which FIR number 736/2019 under the IPC sections 353 (Obstructing government work), 341, and 323(Violence) was also registered in the Manjhauliya Police Station. A new FIR was filed against Manish Kashyap in the Manjhauliya Police Station with FIR number 193/2021 under the IPC sections 353 (Obstructing government work), 448, 385, 505, 506, and 323(Violence).
Spreading Fake News about Bihar migrants in Tamil Nadu
A case was filed in the Economic Offences Unit, Patna, Bihar with FIR number 03/2023 under the IPC sections 153, 153 (A), 153(B), 505(1)(B), 505 (1)(C), 468, 471, 120(B), and IT Act 67 for spreading fake news about alleged violence between the public of Tamil Nadu and workers of Bihar and trying to instigate them to fight each other.
Several politicians from Bihar including Pappu Yadav condemned the decision and requested the government to withdraw the FIR.
Later, a photo was shared on social media in which Manish Kashyap was seen in handcuffs, and it was claimed that he was arrested by Bihar Police. Bihar Police denounced these rumours and said that the photo was taken in 2019 when Manish Kashyap was arrested in another case.

Bihar Police’s economic offences unit (EOU) arrested him on 18 March 2023 after he surrendered. On 30 March 2023, he was granted 3-day police custody by a Maduari court. On 10 November 2023, the Madurai Court granted him bail, and the NSA (National Security Act) imposed on him was also lifted.
Call Recording with Pooja Pandey
In early 2023, a Bhojpuri singer Pooja Pandey sang a song about Manish Kashyap after which some people created a fake call recording by cutting recordings from Kashyap and Pandey’s recordings, claiming that they were having an affair. Pooja dismissed all such claims and said that she never spoke to Kashyap and the recording is fake.
Challenging Bihar’s Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav
In March 2023, when the reports about clashes between Bihar migrants in Tamil Nadu and the Tamil Nadu public were dismissed by the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and Lau Prasad Yadav’s son, Tejashwi Yadav, Manish Kashyap alleged that the news is real and Tejashwi is implicating him in false cases. He also challenged Tejashwi and said that he would not allow Tejashwi to become Chief Minister in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
