Judge of Allahabad High Court
On 21 November 2011, after practising in civil, revenue, criminal and constitutional cases for more than 23 years, he was appointed by the then President of India, Pratibha Patil, as an additional Judge at the Allahabad High Court. On 6 August 2013, he took oath as a permanent judge of the Allahabad High Court.

Defects in Assistant Teacher Recruitment Examination
On 30 June 2021, the division bench of Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Dinesh Pathak demanded replies from the Uttar Pradesh government on the mistakes in the question paper of the Assistant Teacher Recruitment Examination. Some questions in the question paper were out of the syllabus and had the wrong options for the answers. The examination was conducted to recruit 69 thousand of assistant teachers in Uttar Pradesh. The division bench ordered the appellants to file an affidavit in the next two weeks about whether the questions in the exam paper were wrong or out of the syllabus. Later, Abhishek Srivastava, along with 14 others, filed a special appeal and said that the key answers to certain questions were not correct and some questions were out of the syllabus and demanded that marks given on those questions should either be excluded or all candidates must receive equal marks against the questions.
Dismissed a Petition against VIP Darshan
In 2021, Gajendra Singh Yadav, who considered himself a devotee of Lord Shiva and had been visiting Sri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) saying that the temple’s board of trustees’ decision to have a system of Sugam Darshan violates the fundamental rights under Article 14, 15, 25 and 26 of the Constitution of India. He said that a special facility of Sugam Darshan provided by the board of trustees to only those people who pay certain charges had eliminated common people from performing religious practice and exercising their right to worship. Vineet Sankalp, one of the members of the board of trustees brought the court’s attention to Section 15 of the 1983 Act under which the board shall exercise all such powers including fixed fees for the performance of any worship, service, ritual, ceremony or religious observance in the Temple. Vineet Sankalp said that Sugam Darshan Scheme was formed to enable people with physical disabilities and people who were not in a position to stand in a queue with the right to worship, but not to eliminate common worshippers from performing religious practices. On 2 December 2022, the division Bench of Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Sameer Jain dismissed the petition against VIP darshan under the Sugam Darshan Scheme at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
Quashed Death Sentence of a Murder Convict
On 13 July 2022, the division bench of Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Sameer Jain quashed the death sentence given to the culprit for brutally murdering six family members: Suresh Chandra, Vimla Devi, Avnish, Rashmi, Surabhi, and Shweta, after observing that prosecution could not prove the crime committed by the convict beyond doubt.
Dismissed ‘Default Bail’
On 11 January 2023, the division bench of Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Vikas Budhwar dismissed a PIL, which sought a declaration that if a chargesheet is not filed against him within two months of lodging of FIR, a rape accused may seek ‘Default Bail.’
Disposed PIL Seeking Measures to Save Crops
On 13 January 2023, Manoj Misra and Justice Vikas Budhwar passed a PIL filed by Paras Prasad, which sought directions to decrease the loss of farmers’ crops by wild boar and blue bull by taking appropriate and effective measures.
No Interference with Selected Assistant Professors
On 25 January 2023, after hearing a special appeal defective filed by Hemlata Saini, Manoj Misra and Vikas Budhwar passed the order that any kind of interference with the work of candidates selected in the recruitment of Assistant Professor not to be entertained and sought answers from the commission and the Uttar Pradesh government on the same.
Judge of the Supreme Court of India
On 6 February 2023, he was appointed by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, as one of the judges of the Supreme Court of India. On the same day, four other judges were appointed by Droupadi Murmu as judges of the Supreme Court which were the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court Pankaj Mithal, the Chief Justice of Patna High Court Sanjay Karol, the Chief Justice of Manipur High Court P. V. Sanjay Kumar, and the judge of Patna High Court Ahsanuddin Amanullah. Out of the five appointed judges, Manoj Misra is the only one to have a tenure of seven years as a judge of the Supreme Court.
