Even though I was born and raised in Australia, there was a problem with the color of my skin and I was told very often, she doesn’t look Australian enough to represent the country. People were saying, ‘We should be sending white, blond women to Miss Universe’. It tells you about deeper problems, but we are making progress.”
In March 2022, Maria started to work as a columnist with Stellar Magazine. She appeared as a guest host in the American talk show ‘The Project’ in April 2023. Maria tried her hand at acting in the web series ‘Let’s Get Ducking Famous’ (2023) and played ‘Naomi.’
