Wooten also appears in David Byrne’s American Utopia, which is based on the Broadway production and is inspired by Talking Heads musician’s album and tour of the same name. The Musical on Broadway, having recently slotted alongside Carly Rae Jepsen at Coachella.
He’s an adjunct instructor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts
But wait, there’s more! Not only that, but Wooten’s profile on the school’s official website indicates he has been nominated for a Grammy Award. Music runs in his blood as well, with his father performing “pop music and studio work” and formerly playing keyboard for Marcus Miller’s band. Furthermore, his great-grandfather founded the Wooten Choral Ensemble in 1949.
He’s an advocate for teaching inclusive history
In June 2020, Wooten launched an online series called “America Learn Your History,” in which he teaches two-minute episodes about history. The description reads, “Because history class neglects, hides, and sometimes lies from a Black/Puerto Rican perspective,” promising “revisionary from a Black/Puerto Rican viewpoint.” According to Tisch, Wooten was inspired to start the program after the Black Lives Matter movement.
He’s from Chicago

While Toledo, Ohio, is where the actress was born, Wooten was born in New Jersey but grew up in Chicago. “My grandpa wanted to give up leading the choir when I was around 5 years old, so we moved to Chicago so that my father could take it over,” Wooten told Bass Magazine about her family’s relocation.
He continued, “I played keys and bass in the church every week. I never took a bass lesson until I got to college, which was more about learning upright bass. I’m not really actively going to church now, but if I’m making music on a Sunday, I always find I start with gospel music — just playing it for myself. It’s very much a part of me.”

Besides his solo efforts, Wooten has worked with Mac Miller, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Hudson, Rick Ross, and Machine Gun Kelly. He’s worked on Empire, as well as with companies like Google, Reebok, Nike, ESPN, and others, according to his Tisch profile.
