Michael Rudman was an American theatre director who was born in Tyler, Texas on February 14, 1939. He was artistic director of the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, from 1992 to 1994. In 1956, he graduated from St. Mark’s School of Texas. He received an MA in English Language and Literature at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, in 1954.
He also directed several plays on Broadway, including “The Norman Conquests” which won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play in 2009. Tributes to Rudman have poured in from actors, directors, and others in the theatre community who praised him for his talent, dedication, and kindness. At the age of 84, Michael Rudman died on March 30, 2023.

Michael Rudman started his career back in year 1964. He began his career at the Nottingham Playhouse. He was invited to join the National Theatre by Sir Peter Hall, in 1978. From 1979 to 1982, he was director of the Lyttelton Theatre.
He was artistic director of the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, from 1992 to 1994. His work at the Morosco Theater where he directed The Changing Room, was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and he directed Hamlet at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in Lincoln Center, where it was performed in Central Park.
