Micki Mortensen is best known as the wife of Chris Mortensen who was an American journalist. He was well known for working with ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown, SportsCenter, ESPN Radio, Monday Night Countdown, and ESPN.com.

In interviews, he often used to credits his wife for his success stating that she has been his biggest supporter and pillar of inspiration.

He would go on to explain how her unconditional belief in him pushed him to achieve his goals and overcome obstacles.

Without her love and encouragement, he believed he wouldn’t have been able to reach the level of success he has today. They together have a son named, Alex Mortensen, 38, an American football coach and former player.

Her husband, Mortensen disclosed via ESPN on January 15, 2016, that he had stage IV throat cancer and would be taking a vacation from his on-air responsibilities. Mortensen died eight years after diagnosis on March 3, 2024, at 72. Chairman of ESPN released a statement which read as,

He will be greatly missed by many of us in the league who were fortunate to know him well beyond the stories he broke each Sunday. We send our condolences to his family, his colleagues and the many people Chris touched throughout his well-lived life.”

Micki Mortensen and Chris were supportive of their son’s career

Micki Mortensen and Chris knew how much their son loved coaching and were proud to see him following his passion. They often hosted team dinners and fundraisers to help support their son’s team, creating a strong sense of community within the football program.

He started his college career at Arkansas before transferring to Samford and in 2005, he announced, “On Friday, I had a bittersweet meeting with Coach Nutt when I told him that I would be leaving the University of Arkansas and that I will transfer to Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, beginning this fall of 2006.”
