Navneet Aditya Waiba is an Indian singer, who is famous for singing Nepali folk songs without the use of modern musical instruments. She is the daughter of pioneering Nepali folk singer, Hira Devi Waiba. Navneet and her brother are the only popular artists in the authentic Nepali folk music genre.

Navneet Aditya Waiba was born in Kurseong town in Darjeeling, West Bengal. She grew up in a musical environment, where she would watch her grandfather, Singh Man Singh Waiba, train her mother in singing. For generations, their family passed on the ancestral tradition of Nepali folk singing, and thus, right from her childhood, Navneet was schooled by her mother in Nepali folk singing. Navneet studied M.A. in English at North Bengal University, West Bengal, India. She worked as a senior air hostess in Hong Kong with Cathy Pacific Airlines.

Career

Singer/Songwriter

The main genres of Navneet Aditya Waiba’s singing include Nepali folk, Tamang Selo, Maruni, Sorathi, and Madalay. Her professional singing started after the death of her mother in 2011, which gave her and her brother the realization of preserving the legacy of their mother. Both started working on it in 2015. On 3 November 2017, they released an album titled ‘Amma Lai Shraddhanjali – Tribute to Mother’ in which Navneet Aditya Waiba sang iconic song numbers of her mother, Hira Devi Waiba. The production and financial management of this album was done by her brother, Satya Aditya Waiba.

Navneet Aditya Waiba released her singles like ‘Dhiki Kuti’ (2020), Tin Dang Tin Dhang Madal Bajyo (2020), Udho Jada (2021), and Sirphul Dhuna (2024). To preserve the Nepali folk music heritage, Navneet Aditya Waiba established ‘Hira Devi Waiba Pratishthan’ on 12 May 2023, under which she organizes events and performs live with the famous Nepali band Kutumba.
