From 1984 to 1987, Parminder pursued her Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. From 1985 to 1988, she qualified as a Cost Accountant from the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. She also earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management. She also attended Harvard University in Massachusetts, USA and the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) Berlin in Germany.

Career

Parminder Chopra has worked at NHPC (National Hydroelectric Power Corporation) Limited and the Power Grid Corporation of India. She joined the Power Finance Corporation in 2005.

Power Finance Corporation Limited

The Power Finance Corporation Ltd is India’s biggest non-banking financial company. The company is state-owned (owned by the government). From 2005 to 2010, Parminder Chopra was the Deputy General Manager at Power Finance Corporation Ltd. (PFC). From 2010 to 2013, she was promoted to Additional General Manager. In 2013, she was promoted to General Manager. In 2019, she moved up to being Executive Director (Finance) and in 2020, she was promoted to Director (Finance). When she was director, she led the finance division of PFC. With her in charge, PFC saw the highest profit and net worth levels. She also led the company to have the lowest non-performing assets. Under her leadership as director, PFC received the highest Maharatna CPSE (Central Public Sector Enterprises) status in 2021.

In 2023, Parminder became the first woman to lead PFC when she became Chairman and Managing Director.

Her name was recommended by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), a government headhunter. Her appointment as CMD was approved by the Ministry of Power until her retirement or until they provided further orders. She played an important role in the government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, where she executed the Rs. 1.12 trillion Liquidity Infusion Scheme (LIS) for the power distribution sector.
