Prabhakar Chaudhary is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 2010 batch of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. He is known for getting transferred 21 times in his thirteen years of service. He hit the headlines in July 2023 after he was transferred from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, after giving orders for a lathi-charge on Kanwariyas.

Prabhakar Chaudhary was born on Sunday, 1 January 1984 (age 39 years; as of 2023) in Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, India. His zodiac sign is Capricorn. Prabhakar completed his schooling in Uttar Pradesh, achieving 76% in his 10th and 12th-grade exams. Thereafter, he earned a bachelor’s degree in science in physics, chemistry, and maths at Allahabad University following which he pursued a bachelor’s degree in law at the same university; he secured 61 per cent in BSc. After completing his formal education, Prabhakar Chaudhary appeared for the UPSC civil services examination and managed to clear it on his first attempt. Thereafter, he reported at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, Telangana, where he underwent a police training module.

Career
Prabhakar Chaudhary was commissioned as an IPS officer after completing his police training on 30 August 2010.
Thereafter, he was posted at Noida, where he assumed the post of an under-training Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). From January 2015 to December 2015, he served as an ASP in Lalitpur. From 3 January 2016 to 18 August 2016, he served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Deoria. Thereafter, he was appointed as the SP of Kanpur Dehat. He served in the UP Police Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) from 28 April 2017 to 23 September 2017. He was sent to Mathura as an SP on 22 March 2018. There, he played a vital role in planning and executing operations aimed at nabbing mafias and underground criminals. On 30 June 2018, he was appointed as the ASP of Sitapur; he held the post till December 2018. On 9 December 2018, he was appointed as the SP of Bulandshahr.
Prabhakar Chaudhary was posted as the commandant of GRP Jhansi on 20 February 2019; he became the head of the GRP when there was unrest amongst the residents due to a land dispute. He became the police chief of Sonbhadra on 4 August 2019, at a time when the city was tense following a land dispute clash that resulted in ten fatalities. On 31 August 2019, he was sent to Varanasi as a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). He became the SSP of Moradabad city on 7 July 2020. On 14 June 2021, he assumed the post of SSP Meerut. On 25 June 2022, he was sent to Agra, where he served as an SSP.
He was posted to Sitapur on 28 November 2022. There, he assumed the command of the 11th Batallion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). On 12 March 2023, he was sent to Bareilly, where he assumed the post of an SSP. He was transferred to the 32nd Battalion of the PAC on 30 July 2023. Reportedly, one of the reasons cited for his transfer was that he issued a lathi-charge order against Kawariyans in Bareilly who were engaged in a heated confrontation with the cops.
Prabhakar Chaudhary has also served as a commando in the National Security Guards (NSG). There, he used to train recruits in tactics and weapons handling. According to some sources, he might get a central deputation at the CBI in New Delhi.

- Upon his appointment as SP Kanpur Dehat, he arrived at the office on the first day by taking a bus and carrying a pithu bag. In a media interaction, he mentioned that the police station’s officer-in-charge failed to identify him and refused to let him enter.
- According to Chaudhary, he once dressed as a civilian and went to a police station to register an FIR for a stolen bicycle.
