Rajiv Makhni was born on Wednesday, 10 December 1969 (age 50 years; as in 2019) in Amritsar, Punjab. His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He did his schooling from the Guru Harkrishan School in New Delhi and the Doon School in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. He pursued Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education in Mexico.

His mother was born in Amritsar, and his grandparents had arrived in Amritsar from Pakistan. His father belonged to Burma. However, his father was evicted from Burma during the 1949 conflict of Burma. His father settled in Assam later.

Career

Rajiv Makhni started his career as a model. He was a ramp and print model, and he used to do photoshoots for a lot of famous brands in India.

Eventually, he was hired by NDTV, and he started by hosting tech shows alongside senior NDTV journalist, Vikram Chandra. His popularity grew, and he was soon given a show to host titled “Cell Guru.” Makhni is also a tech columnist, and he writes reviews and blogs about smartphones and other technologies for many companies in India and abroad. Some of the publications he writes for are- “Hindustan Times,” “Mansworld,” “Leisure International,” “Outlook Group,” and many more. He also hosts several tech shows on TV such as- “Gadget Guru,” “Cell Guru,” “Walk the Tech Talk,” “News Net 3.0”, and a tech quiz show- “Chroma Tech Grandmaster.” Rajiv also hosts a radio tech show on “Radio Mirchi” titled- “Tech Makhni English.”

On 20 February 2018, he got the chance to meet and interview the world’s first AI-powered social humanoid robot, Sophia.

Facts/Trivia

  • In 1995, he had started an Italian cuisine chain of restaurants named- “Slice of Italy.” He had 6 restaurants across India. However, the chain was sold off to an MNC in 2002 due to high operational costs and low profits. Once, in an interview, Rajiv said-

We could not compete with the coupon marketing strategy and with big brands such as Dominos and Pizza Hut”
