Randy Price To Retire on May 20, 2020 , Randy recently stated that his last day at the WCVB station will be Wednesday, May 20, 2020. This is his decision after working for more than four decades as a journalist.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute of my more than 10 years anchoring the EyeOpener newscasts here at WCVB; now I’ve decided it’s time for me to step back from my career in news and start a new chapter. I look forward to enjoying different adventures in my life,” said Price.

Randy began his broadcasting career in college radio, which continued with a stint in the U.S. Air Force, with Price working for the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service.
He worked in television in Bakersfield, California (KERO-TV) and Toledo, Ohio (WTVG), before moving to Boston WBZ-TVin 1983 where he anchored for 12 years. However, he left WBZ in 1995 due to alcohol problems which included a drunk driving conviction.
Also, he joined WHDH-TV in 1996 as a freelance reporter, and in 1997 was made a full-time anchor. Later moved into the morning anchor chair and then promoted to anchor the 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts. On February 6, 2009, Price let go from WHDH-TV. His last newscast was on Wednesday, February 4, 2009. On February 7, 2009, The Boston Globe quoted Price that station owner, Edmund Ansin, had told him “we need to move in different directions.”
On June 2, 2009, Price named morning anchor at WCVB-TV, Channel 5 in Boston. Also, well known to New England civic and philanthropic communities. He helped raise awareness and millions of dollars for causes important to him and his viewers – autism, veteran causes, Scouting (he an Eagle Scout), alcohol and substance abuse, animal welfare, and LGBT issues. As the nation’s first openly gay TV news anchor, Randy is regularly invited to speak to a wide variety of audiences
Randy honored with numerous humanitarian and professional awards including the broadcast news industry highest honor — a national Edward R. Murrow Award for best newscast in a large television market. As a longtime viewer favorite, Randy also featured in Boston Magazine as “Boston’s Best News Anchor”.

Channel 5 morning news anchor Randy was hospitalized in New Hampshire after a bicycle accident. Price posted two photos of himself at Portsmouth Regional Hospital with a bloodied face. Also, he said the injuries were the result of a “bike mishap’’ that happened near his house on Saturday.
“I am tremendously thankful for my neighbors, my husband, Mark [Steffen], friends, paramedics with American Ambulance and the great emergency room team at Portsmouth Hospital,’’ Price posted to Facebook Saturday evening.
