Parents & Siblings
He had five siblings and all of them sold lottery tickets to contribute to the family income. One of his brothers, Purshottam Berde, is a well-known Indian playwright. His brother, Laxmikant Berde, was an Indian actor who mainly appeared in Marathi and Hindi films. Apart from films, Laxmikant was a well-known name in the world of Marathi theatres. On 16 December 2004, Laxmikant Berde died of kidney failure in Mumbai.

In 1985, he debuted with the film ‘Vahinichi Maya’ in which he played the lead role of Dinu Deshmukh.
In 1993, he appeared as Hawaldar Tukaram (Tukya) in the popular Marathi comedy horror film ‘Zapatlela’ starring his brother Laxmikant Berde in the lead role. He worked in many Marathi films including ‘Ek Gadi Baki Anadi’ (1988), Hamaal De Dhamaal (1989), Hach Sunbaicha Bhau (1992), and Houn Jau De (2009).

In 1993, he appeared in a supporting role in the family drama film ‘Santaan’ starring Jeetendra. He hit the spotlight in Hindi cinema after he played the role of Balraj Chauhan’s party supporter in the famous 2001 Bollywood film ‘Nayak: The Real Hero’ starring Anil Kapoor in the lead role. He was famous for playing the role of Zamindar Chandrakant in the 2011 hit Bollywood action film ‘Singham.’
Television
In 1989, he was cast to play the role of bus conductor in the Marathi TV series ‘Nasti Aafat.’ In 1999, he played multiple roles in DD National’s detective-crime drama series ‘Suraag: The Clue.’
Death
In 2011, he was diagnosed with throat cancer. He was receiving cancer treatment at Tata Hospital in Mumbai and was admitted due to difficulty in breathing. However, he was discharged and sent home two days before his death. On 13 December 2023, he succumbed to death after suffering a heart attack at his home in Mumbai. Â Former Rajya Sabha member Vikas Mahatme took to X (formerly Twitter) and made a post to mourn the death of Ravindra Berde.
