Robin Roberts Biography
Robin Roberts an American television broadcaster working as an anchor on ABC’s Good Morning. Previously, before joining ABC, Roberts worked as a sports anchor on ESPN for 15 years from 1990 to 2005
She started off as a sports anchor for local TV and radio stations. From 1990 to 2005 (15 years), Roberts was a sportscaster on ESPN. In 2005, Roberts became a co-anchor on Good Morning America. She was treated for a myelodysplastic syndrome which was chronicled on the program and earned her a 2012 Peabody Award for the coverage.

In November 2018 Former first lady Michelle Obama and Robin’s “Good Morning America” co-anchor visited Obama’s childhood home on the South Side and her Near West Side high school for an ABC network special tied to Obama’s forthcoming memoir.
“Becoming Michelle: A First Lady’s Journey with Roberts – A Special Edition of 20/20” was scheduled to air at 8 p.m. Sunday in November 2018. Obama also spoke to Robin live from Chicago on “GMA” on Nov. 13, 2018, the day “Becoming” was later released.
The book covers Obama’s journey from growing up in the South Shore community to becoming the first African-American first lady. Obama’s book tour was scheduled to kick off November 13, 2018, at the United Center with a conversation moderated by Oprah Winfrey.
Representatives for ABC said Obama surprised some students at her alma mater, Whitney Young Magnet High School, with free tickets to her book tour. Live Nation said 10 percent of the tickets for each of Obama’s shows would be donated to charities, schools, and community groups in each city. Tickets for the United Center stop-start at $575 each, this was according to Monday’s check of the Ticketmaster website.

Roberts got diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer in 2007. On August 3, 2007, she underwent surgery and by January 2008 she had completed eight chemotherapy treatments, followed by 6½ weeks of radiation treatment.

After she was through with cancer treatment Roberts was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) in 2012. Myelodysplastic is a disease of the bone marrow. When Roberts went public with her illness, ‘Be the Match Registry’, a non-profit organization run by the National Marrow Donor program experienced a 1,800% spike in donors.
Roberts took a leave from GMA and went for a bone marrow transplant in October 2012 and by February 20, 2013, she returned to GMA. She received a 2012 Peabody Award for the program.
Robbin was also credited by The Peabody citation for “allowing her network to document and build a public service campaign around her battle with the rare disease and inspiring hundreds of potential bone marrow donors to register and heighten awareness of the need for even more donors. Later the ESPN awarded its Arthur Ashe Courage Award to Roberts at the 2013 ESPYs.
