Rovman Powell was born on Friday, 23 July 1993 (age 30 years; as of 2024) in Kingston, Jamaica. His zodiac sign is Leo. He grew up in the Bannister area of Old Harbour Bay and lived in poverty as his house was in a very poor condition. His mother was his only parent as his father wanted her mother to abort the child, and when she refused, he abandoned her and Rovman.
She worked multiple jobs to raise Rovman who also did many part-time jobs such as a goat herder to make some money. He did his initial schooling at Davis Primary School, Old Harbour and later studied at Old Harbour High School, Old Harbour.
When he was a child, Powell decided to use sports and education as tools to pull his family out of poverty. He used to practice running and was a good track and field athlete during his growing years; however, his Physical Education (PE) teacher Carlton Solan once saw him playing cricket and was impressed with Powell’s talent. He later kept an eye on him and told him to quit athletics and focus on cricket to become a sportsman. He was later given a scholarship to study at University of the West Indies (UWI) for his good performance in sports tournaments. He pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Social Studies at UWI and graduated in 2015.

Domestic
During his initial years, Rovman Powell trained under Robert Samuels, the former West Indies player and brother of Marlon Samuels, and under Floyd Reifer at the Academy of Sport in Barbados. In 2011, he played for Jamaica Under-19. In 2015, he made his List A debut for Combined Campuses and Colleges in the 2014–15 Regional Super50 tournament against Guyana.
In the 2014–15 Regional Four-Day Competition, he played for Jamaica and made his First-class debut. He played for the University of West Indies Vice-Chancellor’s XI in 2018 and for Leeward Islands, Leeward Islands Under-19, and St Kitts & Nevis Invitation XI.

He made his ODI debut on 16 November 2016 against Sri Lanka in Harare, Zimbabwe and scored 44 runs off 29 deliveries. On 20 December 2017, he made his first ODI fifty by scoring 59 runs against New Zealand in Whangarei. He scored his first ODI century with 101 runs against Ireland on 10 March 2018.
T20I
Rovman Powell played his debut T20I match on 26 March 2017 against Pakistan in Bridgetown, Barbados and 5 runs in 5 balls. On 20 December 2018, he hit his first T20I half-century with 50 runs against Bangladesh in Mirpur. He scored his maiden T20I hundred by making 107 runs off 53 balls against England on 26 January 2022.
T20 World Cup

Captaincy
He became the captain of the West Indies ODI team for the first time in December 2018. After West Indies failed to qualify for the Super 12 stage of the 2022 T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Nicholas Pooran, he was appointed as the skipper of the West Indies T20 team.

Caribbean Premier League (CPL)
In the 6th round of the CPL player draft in April 2016, he was acquired by Jamaica Tallawahs for $40 thousand for the 2017 CPL season where he played alongside Kumar Sangakkara, Andre Russell, and Chris Gayle.
In 2020, he was retained by the franchise for the 2020 CPL season. He represented Barbados Royals in the 2023 CPL season.
Indian Premier League (IPL)
He was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the 2017 IPL season for Rs 30 lakhs against his base price of Rs 30 lakhs.

He represented Comilla Victorians in the 5th BPL season in 2017. In the 6th season of BPL in 2019, he played for Dhaka Dynamites.
Pakistan Super League (PSL)
Peshawar Zalmi acquired him to play in the rescheduled matches of the PSL 6 in 2021 due to COVID-19. He played for Multan Sultans in the 2022 PSL season. He played for Peshawar Zalmi in the 2023 season and was acquired in the platinum category (between $130,000 to $170,000) during the auction for the 2024 season.

- His batting style is right-handed, and his bowling style is right-arm fast-medium. His playing position is mostly as a middle-order batting allrounder.
- He has credited his mother as the reason behind his success in cricket. He talked about his growing-up years in an interview and said that the terrace of his house had cracks through which water leaked whenever it rained, hence he used to stay awake and keep an eye on the water. He always believed himself to be the man of the house. When he started earning money by playing in university-level cricket tournaments, he started sending money to his mother which made him very happy.
- Rovman Powell considers fellow West Indies cricketer Andre Russell as his inspiration and friend who helped him correct his technique and exercise in a manner to build power and strength. Russell guided Powell with workouts needed to be done to become a world-class cricketer.
