Ryan Tham is an Indian Mumbai-based restaurateur. He is known for being the ex-husband of the Indian actress Minissha Lamba.

Ryan Tham was born on Sunday, 18 April 1982 (age 39 years; as of 2021) in Mumbai. His zodiac sign is Aries. He attended Mumbai’s G.D. Somani Memorial School and H.R. College to complete his schooling. Thereafter, he moved to Australia’s Griffith University to pursue his graduation in Business and Restaurant Management (2004). Growing up in a family of top-flight restaurateurs, Ryan wanted to run his own restaurants since he was a teenager. When Ryan returned from Australia, his grandfather’s 45-year-old restaurant Mandarin was shut (2003), and his father, Henry, was setting up a fine-dining restro-bar in its place. The restaurant was launched in 2005 and was named ‘Henry Tham.’ Ryan suggested his father to add a bar to ‘Henry Tham,’ an idea that was imported from Australia.

Ryan Tham’s father, Henry Tham, is a restaurateur. His mother’s name is Ashitta Tham (Bengali). He has a younger brother, Keenan Tham, who is also a restaurateur. His brother, Keenan is married to Neha Tham who is the owner of Pause Fashion, a women’s clothing store in Mumbai.

His paternal grandfather, Mon Yiu Tham, was a restaurateur who established two of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Mumbai (Mandarin and Kamling). His maternal grandfather, Laxmichand Gupta, was a trader. His maternal grandmother’s name is Reba Gupta.

Wife

Ryan tied the knot with the Indian actress Minissha Lamba in a private ceremony on 6 July 2015. The duo got divorced in 2020.

Other Relatives

The famous Indian film actor Kabir Bedi is his uncle. The late Indian classical dancer Protima Bedi is her aunt. Pooja Bedi (actress and talk show host) is the first cousin of Ryan.

Ryan Tham is half-Chinese and half-Bengali. He is Chinese from his father’s side and Bengali from his mother’s side.

Career

Ryan started his career in 2004 by assisting his father in his restaurant ‘Henry Tham.’ In 2010, Ryan and his brother shut Henry Tham and launched ‘Trilogy,’ a nightclub at Hotel Sea Princess, Juhu. The restaurant was shut in 2017. Talking about Trilogy in an interview, Ryan said,

Most of the music festivals would host their pre- and after-parties there. Nightclubs usually last two to three years. Our target was to survive three New Years; we got seven.”

In 2014, Ryan and his brother Keenan set up Pebble Street Hospitality with four of their friends from the GD Somani Memorial School. The company’s first launch was The Good Wife, a modern European gastropub in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai.

Their next opening was “Koko” (meaning big brother in Chinese), an Asian-themed gastropub in Kamala Mills (opened in 2016).

  • Ryan Tham loves partying and travelling in his leisure time.
  • He is the third generation of one of the oldest Chinese families in Mumbai. The Thams are one of the most prominent names attached to Chinese cuisine in Mumbai.
  • Ryan’s grandfather was born into a family of hairdressers in Kolkata. He moved to Mumbai and got settled there in the 1960s. Talking about his grandfather in an interview, Ryan said,

    I still remember those days. Grandpa would close the till, lock the money in the safe, and only then would he go home.”

  • Ryan’s grandfather first set up a salon in Mumbai along with his wife, but he later decided to open a restaurant.
