His family was financially weak during his younger years. His parents used to do odd jobs in their village to make ends meet. Safin used to study in a Gujarati-medium school, and he did not learn English until class 11th. Once, when he was in school, a collector had visited his school for inspection. Safin was amazed to see that his school principal and his teachers were treating him like a king. He went home, and he asked his aunt why was the collector being treated with such respect. His aunt told him that the collector was an IAS officer, which is a very respectable post, and anyone could become an IAS officer by studying hard. It was on that day that Safin decided to become an IAS officer.
