Salhoutuonuo Kruse was born in 1967 (age 56 years; as of 2023) in Nagaland, India. After completing high school at Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School (MHBHSS) in Kohima, Nagaland, she enrolled at Kohima College, where she completed a pre-university course in arts in 1986.

In the elections, she emerged victorious by defeating Keneizakho Nakhro, an independent candidate, by 7 votes. While giving an interview, she said,

Today, we have created history! Today, we have created history. This momentous victory belongs to us. I owe this victory to God Almighty, and to my citizens of Western Angami. I am very humbled by the support everyone has given me.”

On 7 March 2023, she became the first woman minister of Nagaland after she was inducted into the Nagaland cabinet as a minister.

Social Activism

Before becoming a politician, Salhoutuonuo Kruse was associated with several Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) in Nagaland and worked for women’s rights. In 2011, she assumed the presidency of Angamimiapfu Mechu Krotho (now known as Angami Women Organization). She remained in the post till 2014.
