Salome Roy Kapur was born as ‘Solome Aaron’ in November 1951 (age 68 years; as in 2019) in India. She has been training in dancing since the age of five. In western dances, she is trained in ballroom dance, different kinds of Latin American dances, Tap Dance, Spanish dances, and folk dances; and in Indian dance forms, she is a trained Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Kathakali dancer.

She belongs to the Bene Israel community. Her parents, Sam Aaron and Ruby Aaron were both dancers. They were the first certified ballroom dancers of India and are known to bring Samba in India during the 1940s. She has a brother named Edwin. She is married to Kumud Roy Kapoor, a ex-Army Officer.

Career

She started her career as a model in 1968. At the age of 12, she acted in a Cadbury advertisement with her brother. The next year, she appeared in an advertisement for Apsara sarees. She walked the ramp on many events, where she used to show her dancing skills during her ramp walk. In 1971, she was a winner of a beauty contest in Spain. In 1972, she won the title of Miss India.

She has also done modelling for brands like ITC Wills, Godrej, Cadbury, Tata, Century Mills, Calico, TBZ, Taj Mahal Tea, and many textile companies. She made her acting debut with the film, Tu Hi Meri Zindagi (1965).

She has also acted in the film Ek Bechara (1972) and Black (2005). However, due to her love for dancing, she chose to become a choreographer. She is the choreographer behind the famous song “Main Shayar To Nahin” from the film “Bobby” (1973). She conducts dance and grooming workshops in various schools and has a dance academy of her own.

  • Reportedly, she met her husband for the first time at a bar when he was an army officer with his posting in Kashmir.
  • For a long time, she has been the play director at GD Somani Memorial School, the school where her sons studied.
