Sara Ali Khan was born on Saturday, 12 August 1995 (age 29 years; as of 2024), in Mumbai. Her zodiac sign is Leo. She did her schooling from Besant Montessori School, Mumbai, and Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai. In an interview, the popular Indian actress, Ananya Pandey revealed that Sara Ali Khan was her senior in school. Sara did her graduation in History and Political Science from Columbia University, New York in 2016.

Her parents got divorced in 2004; after 13 years of their marriage. Sara and her brother were raised by their mother. In an interview, while talking about her parent’s divorce, she said,

I was more than okay with that arrangement. I think having two happy parents in different homes is much more preferable than two unhappy parents in the same home. I think I am the way that I am because my mother didn’t let me feel any kind deprivation for even a second. I have a very hands-on mother. Once my brother and I were born, she did nothing but look after us.”

After a few relationships, her father got married for the second time on 16 October 2012, to the famous Bollywood actress, Kareena Kapoor. On 20 December 2016, her stepbrother, Taimur Ali Khan, was born. In 2020, Kareena Kapoor was pregnant with her second child.

Since her childhood, she wanted to become an actress, whereas her father, Saif Ali Khan, wanted her to first complete her studies. In the year 2018, she made her Bollywood debut with the film, ‘Kedarnath,’ opposite Sushant Singh Rajput. The film is, reportedly, inspired by the 2013 Kedarnath Disaster.

In 2018, she appeared in the Hindi film, ‘Simmba’ alongside Ranveer Singh. In 2020, she was roped in the Bollywood film, ‘Love Aaj Kal 2,’ directed by the popular Indian director, ‘Imtiaz Ali.’ She was cast as a main lead in the Bollywood films, ‘Coolie No. 1’ (2020) and ‘Atrangi Re’ (2021).

Controversies

  • In 2019, she appeared in an interview with the famous Indian journalist, Barkha Dutt. Sara landed herself into a controversy when one person from the audience asked her,

If she ever felt like looking darker or going to the beach and getting a tan.”

To which she replied,

If you wanna be tan, just put on some bronzer, and if you wanna be fair, put on some powder. It’s not the end of the world, and it shouldn’t define you at all.”

Her comment was not taken positively by the people, and she received backlash for making a racist comment on a public platform.

  • During the investigation of Sushant Singh Rajput’s mysterious death on 14 June 2020, the Bollywood actress, Rhea Chakraborty was arrested by the NCB for her connection in drug trading. While Rhea was in remand under the NCB, she revealed around 25 names of Bollywood celebrities who were involved in taking drugs. The list of 25 celebrities included names of Bollywood actors like Rakul Preet Singh and Sara Ali Khan. Sara received huge criticism from the netizens for her involvement in drugs.

  • As a child, Sara Ali Khan used to be a bit overweight, and she weighed nearly 96 kg. She worked hard in the gym, and she went on to get herself transformed from fat to fit. She changed her diet completely, earlier, she used to eat fast food a lot. She was suffering from Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) due to which she had difficulty in loosing weight. While talking about her weight loss journey in one of the episodes of Indian Idol, she said,

    I am a big fan of Neha Kakkar as she is a great singer, I really love her songs. It’s a fan moment for me. I was so excited before coming on Indian Idol 10 to meet Neha.
